Liam may turn out to be good, but RBR refuse to have two top tier drivers.

As long as Max is there they will never get a top tier driver. The focus is on getting someone will recognize their role as #2 to backup Max. They are looking for a driver to block and pick up constructor points and who won't piss and moan every time they tell him to let Max pass.

Hopefully we continue to get those radio messages from Liam bitching about other drivers.

I have high hopes for Lawson, maybe he turns out to be a sainz level driver who is not a clear cut top tier guy, but is right below that. Word is he also gets along very well with max, which is a big deal. Yuki is still very combustible.

Love the various terminology used to describe his hotheadedness.

From that article on RB and Checo:
quote:

But it is understood to now be a matter of how to handle his exit, rather than whether he should be replaced, with Liam Lawson in line to partner Max Verstappen next season.

Horner said he’d let Perez “come to his own conclusions” and “nobody’s forcing him one way or another”.

It is unlikely Perez is going to take his exit lying down given he has a life to manage after F1 and, as he has often pointed out, he has a contract. He is believed to be keen on being well-compensated in the event he is dropped, so is fully aware of his perilous position.

They're hoping Checo will retire but he's got all of the leverage because they made the godawful decision in June to extend his contract for two years.

Sounds like Horner may be hoping that Red Bull itself takes the problem off his hands by paying Checo to be an energy drink spokesmen but how much is he worth when his influence is limited to Mexico and he's just been dumped. Why would Red Bull pay big bucks for that?

Maybe they'll find an agreeable way out of this but it's as bad as some shitty coach getting a massive buyout or a ridiculously cap-destroying guaranteed NBA contract.

they'll probably have to pay him, but this is red bull we are talking about. not la tech being unable to pay off sonny cumbie.

I know but they likely extended him because that's how bad they need the sponsorship money he brings.

Either that or Horner is in mortal fear of having his head wind up on top of a turtle in the desert.

RB has under estimated either Perez’ lack of self awareness or his ability to eat shite and be a disgrace on a public stage. Perez’ comments after the race like it was going well before the spin out were insanely delusional

Zhou Guanyu has scored 4 times as many points as Perez in the last 4 races

Zhou's last 4 races: 8th, 13th, 15th, 15th: 4 Points

Perez's last 4 races: DNF, 10th, 11th, 17th: 1 Point

Absolutely incredible performance from Zhou whos also driving the worst car on the grid

Zhou to Red Bull 2025?

VSC

-or-

A double yellow, a guy with a flag and a guy to pickup the debris.

-or-

Let drivers run 200 down the straight with a yellow light flashing and hope the debris... does what?

I'm a new fan of this sport and really enjoy the racing, tech and drama, but the FIA seems to be the weak link.

But if they ever so slightly lift and do just 190 then they’re being safe.

The whole world knew exactly when and where that mirror was as soon as it fell off and it should have been picked up immediately.

Hell, they’re in Qatar. Don’t they have some expendable people they could put out there to grab it?

Well that was a fun race. One of the better races of the year imo. Max didn't run away with it but it was a bit of a masterclass from him. Really nice drive.

Ferrari and Merc really should have been ripping F1 a new on for not calling for a safety car until both of them picked up debris. That was so lame. Neither were going to win obviously but that cost them some pretty important points. For four laps the announcers were basically going "Umm what are they doing, why won't the call a safety car to clean this up, someone is going to pick up damage." And big shocker, they did.

It's gotten to where very rarely does a week go by without the stewards/F1 doing something really dumb that should have been pretty simple.

All that being said, this has been the most entertaining season of F1 in recent memory. It would legit not be surprising if any four teams/7 drivers (Checco not included) could win a race right now. Really really hope this close competition carries over unto next year as well.

There are plenty of quality drivers that can/will fill that role.

Yea Checco gets paid 10 million a year. I think Yuki, Nico, Albon, and quite a few others would take a 5-9 million dollar a year raise along with an upgrade in car to be #2 for RB.
