I don’t think so. There’s probably interest from Chicago but nothing signed/planned.

Imola has been vastly improved by removing a lot of asphalt runoff with grass and gravel.

IMOLA IMPROVEMENTS.

Are there rumblings around Chicago actually being on the calendar?

F1 Troll posted a joke around a calendar full of 24 US dates and in the caption put "now that Chicago is signed"

God I hope not, the three here are plenty enough.
With F1 trying to tap into the larger US market it seems inevitable, especially if the viewership numbers support it.

As long as it is a good track and in a different region of the country than what is currently on the calendar I am all for it.

A race in the northeast might be nice, not in a city but out in the country in that area.

Are any tracks in the US certified to handle F1 races currently? which ones would be the cheapest to upgrade to that level?

not sure any one is going to be willing to put of the money to build another COTA somewhere else in the US

I know I'm repeating myself multiple times over, but F1 leaving Indianapolis was a mistake that they need to correct.

I know it is rumor mill...but some chatter out there about Ocon wanting to leave Alpine.

If true, I cannot really think of a great fit for him, but maybe Williams if they really are improving but still not sold.

Alex Albon has signed a two-year extension with Williams to take him through the 2026 and 2027 seasons, the first two years of the new car.

I'm assuming he inquired at the top four or five teams, and there were no solid offers (there's a waiting game going on, possibly centered on Red Bull's decision on Perez; plus strangely there's been no announcement on Lance's seat), so he figured he would secure his future and get it off his mind before any unexpected craziness happened.

It would be a sight to see them fly down the corkscrew at Laguna Seca

I don’t know why he annoys me. He seems like a nice guy. And yet.

KMag says F1 should learn from US style racing

FYI, Kevin's dad Jan Magnussen's career included 25 F1 races and 11 IndyCar races. Kevin was a young kid but he seemed to remember this time and has always been a fan of IndyCar. I have no doubt when his F1 career ends, he will seek a ride in IndyCar.

racer.com/2024/05/16/magnussen-urges-f1-to-learn-from-u-s-style-of-racing-and-racetracks/

quote:

“The best thing would be for the FIA to tell us to give back positions, and then the consequence for not doing that being harsh — like really harsh, so you make sure that’s being done,” Magnussen said. “I think firstly it gets too complicated, and also too big a consequence. You have to be able to leave a bit of room to go over the limit and then come back from that, whereas now if they judge it to be an unfair advantage and it’s a drive-through penalty, I think that’s not good.

“I’ve raced in IndyCar, and I love the way they race over there — I feel the rules are very clear and very simple, and the racing is great.

He's saying instead of escalating penalties from a small time penalty to a drive-through penalty, which he considers overly harsh, just instruct the driver to give back the position. I totally agree, it works fine for IndyCar and it avoids harsh penalties for hard-fought racing.

quote:

“Tracks, that’s a big part too. I raced in IndyCar and also in sports cars in America and one thing that stood out was the tracks and how unbelievably different they are to F1 tracks. “The cars over there, they’re low as well — we bounce around in the sports cars over there. I feel that we’re very sensitive to track stuff in Formula 1.

“I like the rough tracks; I prefer those. But also to the racing issue, tracks that have grass or gravel on the outside, you put this natural limit in and that sorts itself out. I feel that’s also an issue in Formula 1, just the tracks in general.”

Another good (and obvious) idea to enforce track limits. But he also bags on F1 for being too prissy about smooth track surfaces.

I understand his point and don't necessarily disagree about F1 being prima donnas about tracks. Americans and Aussies DGAF what they're racing on. We just want to make the car go vroom, be it on a dirt oval or Grade 1 circuit. It's just that pioneer spirit.

At the same time F1 cars are delicate and expensive. Indy cars are more durable and cheaper to build and repair thanks to it being spec. One series can afford to be a little more reckless. F1 these days is so much more expensive than any other series out there.

KMag sounds like a guy that’s ready to jet out of F1 imo.

Kmag pointed out how ridiculous it is to be penalized points for driving outside white lines.

He's absolutely correct.

My brain read this the wrong way and I spent 10 minutes looking for news that Kevin reached 12 points somehow outside of a race and got his license suspended.
