The solution is 100% with the car.
If that's true, then why hasn't NASCAR found that solution in the 36 years since they first put the plates on at Talladega in 1987? They've literally tried everything under the sun to "fix" the cars. Restrictor plates, tapered spacers, aero changes, engine modifications, gear rules, spoiler rules, shock packages, etc, etc, etc. You name it, Nascar has tried it. And we still have dangerous pack racing at Dayton and Talladega. When you have tried that many things, with the same result AND take into consideration that the cars work every where else Nascar races, on oval tracks, short tracks, road courses and even DIRT, you have to come to the logical conclusion that the CARS aren't the problem. It's the tracks.
But nobody has ever accused Nascar fans of being logical...

Because they don’t want to fix it. Plate races draw their higher ratings every year. On the surface they say they want to and then throw bandaid fixes. This is just cover for when the next driver dies. But they have not made honest attempts to fix it, due to ratings and hype. How long have you watched nascar?
I will give them credit for the Safer barriers though. But any plate racing blood is all on nascar.

Daytona and Dega can be fixed by incentivizing the drivers to race the entire race and not from the last green flag pitstop. Paying points or money for passes or something.

Award passing points.
Also, smaller engine but no plate means can pass cars alone. Smaller tires (less width) means have to slow down in corners. Just a few more ways they can fix. They say a different plate track engine is costly to smaller teams yet how much is cost in damaged cars every year from plate tracks. And risks. They (nascar) like the pack racing though, its money maker.

I saw my first Nascar race live in 1976 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. So a while.

What’s everyone think about Denny’s Million Dollar idea: Midseason Single Elimination Tournament
Twitter Video of him explaining it
Current bracket would look like this based on points:

32 drivers.
5 week mid summer tournament.
3M to win.
How many upsets would we have in week 1 alone??

.@NASCAR offers 50M to anyone with a perfect bracket (insure it). Casual fans would be all over it. Sports bettors are bored in the summer with nothing but MLB to bet on.
Would create so much chatter and content.

Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports, will not compete in this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Dover Motor Speedway due to a fractured vertebra. He is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.
Bowman, who leads the Cup Series in average finish through 10 points-paying races in 2023, suffered the compression fracture in an accident Tuesday evening while competing in a sprint car event at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. The 30-year-old driver was treated locally last night and evaluated again this morning in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Josh Berry, 32, will fill in during Bowman’s recovery.

Josh Berry is gaining great Cup experience through the injuries of others.

You are correct. The plate races are always the highest attended and watched events.
There have been years when the plate races produced an outstanding product on the track. There have been years where the races was like watching paint dry.
I was at the race at 'Dega that Martin won without a caution. It was a yawner. There were only about 25 lead changes that day.
In my humble opinion there's a simple solution. Raise the front air dam, shorten the rear spoiler and soften the tire compound.
Make handling an issue and force the drivers to actually have to drive the car and manage tire wear.

I suffered compression fractures in my L3 and L4 vertebrae in a car crash. 3 mths in a solid polyurethane back brace. Not pleasant.

Me too. It was run the Saturday before Mother’s Day after a rainout a few weeks before.

Can we just say no to the Chicago street race. Say no.
Posted on 4/27/23 at 11:16 am to WeareLATech
I'm excited for the street race. Hopefully they don't issue full course cautions for spins.
Posted on 4/27/23 at 11:32 am to pdubya76
Flatten 'dega and Daytona tracks a bit, drivers would actually have to lift and handling would be the key to winning.

I'm saying yes since I plan on being there.
