racing around the sphere is going to be sweet, but won't it be distracting to the drivers? they will probably have to turn all those lights off
That thing is probably distracting to half of Las Vegas. One of the most expensive public golf courses in Vegas now has that looming near it.
I can't imagine having to tee off and have a massive blinking eye seeming like it's right there on the course

it's actually a midnight CST start. 10 PM local.
10PM Start time? Who planned that?

They want a night race in Vegas to see all the lights, and since it's at 10pm local time on Saturday night it'll be a Sunday morning race in Europe.

Ya, I figured the planned it for Europe while alienating half of the US.

They obviously will do a Vegas race as a night race, but the later the better for the European crowd, which I'm sure is where a large portion of their viewership comes from.

And the Eurotrash is still bitching about 3 races in the US.

Nascar: Gimmicks and pandering killed our sport
F1/ Liberty Media: Hold my beer

Liberty is making the sport too American.

Yea its really bad
The Formula Netflix fans making it even worse
F1 will have a reckoning, similar to Nascar has experienced over the last 15 years.
Indycar poised to take advantage as it is a superior product with more sustainable numbers

They’ve made some good changes, or F1 has at least, the new cars make for better racing, but the gimmicks are hurting it, and they’re overexposing the sport.
I hope it doesn’t end like that. At least F1 hasn’t willfully alienated their core audience.

I think the racing last year was better, but this year the car's still have too much turbulence and disparity to generate "good racing"....the problem is magnified if you take out DRS from the equation...there would be even less passing without it.
Compare that to the seasons of the latest 90s, early 2000s where you would have Williams, Jordan, Renault/Benneton, Mclaren, Ferrari ,(shite even Stewart GP) capable of challenging for wins every year.
If F1 decides to implement their reverse DRS idea to artificially create passing, I would expect a mass exodus of hardened f1 fans (people who watched the sport before Netflix). The Netflix folks will move onto the next thing and the sport will be left a shell of its former self.

quote:yeah this is a terrible idea. I loved watching the midfield teams blast out on softs while the top 4 sat in the pits wondering what to do
Won't really change the top teams, but those on the bubble will feel it. They can't run softs against mediums to get an advantage into Q2/Q3.

Basically they would impose extra drag on the leading car to artificially create passing
This is some WWE shite
