Because sitting in front of a tv for 4 1/2 hours is boring.

The long races is the one thing Nascar clings to from it's past that it should dump.

Years ago they were actually endurance races. These days between the restricted engines and gear rules they rarely blow up and with power steering/cool suits/cooled helmets the drivers are not worn out either.

Going 500, or more, miles is not a big deal anymore. Hell, guys have run both the Indy 500 and the 600 the same day. Might as well shorten the races as it will keep the audience interested.

That's what they have tried to do with the stages, but it's just a gimmick that has fallen flat.

2 hours and you're out for a F1 race. that's awesome. not to mention viewers feel like they know the drivers thanks to DTS.

Finished the newest season of Drive to Survive (figured I'd just post here instead of M/TV Board). IMO, not quite as good as previous seasons, but I was glad that Sainz got more screen time.

I will say I was not expecting to like Otmar like I did. I know they play the drama up but he actually came across as a pretty likeable guy and Zak Brown came off as a douche. Not sure what to think of the Piastri situation other than I felt myself taking Alpine's side on it. I thought it was funny that Zak thought that a "driver swap" with Daniel Ric was going to make things better. Dude, you are already dropping him at the end of the year, nobody would need to swap with you, much less with the kid they've spent millions of dollars grooming.

I thought it was one of the better DTS seasons. No fake drama, there were plenty of real storylines there.

Zak is a hustler, no doubt, at that time he was probably trying to hold off a lawsuit since Mclaren probably would have had to fund some sort of defense.

I'm not gonna pretend to be deeply invested into NASCAR nowadays, but I've never liked the stages. Seems like it's just been one bad decision after another.

Frankly, I won't be surprised if Ric ends up in the seat at some point this year.
Need some oven mitts for this take.

Not sure I agree, but I respect the hell out of it.

Mika Häkkinen has an interesting take on Pérez's role on the Red Bull team. Max should be pleased to have Pérez as his teammate, but Max was a real dick in Brazil and unhelpful at Abu Dhabi. Pérez might think differently this year.

Bottas had the same subservient role when he was with Mercedes, that's why Hamilton praised him and wanted to keep him as a teammate. Now things are unpleasant for Hamilton, like when he had Rosberg as a teammate.

I think Piastri will score a few points more than Stroll/Drugovich which will make the difference between McLaren and AM....but it will be really close. It was essentially a coin flip in my head, plus I am a McLaren fan.

I'd be OK with 2 stages...with the break being at "halftime"...

Hope McLaren completely flames out this year. Spending big bucks on drivers while having a shite car is great.

Zak Brown is a great marketer. Seems to be the limit of his skills. I'm not a fan of the guy and that is not a new thing.

Not sure how much time Zak has left at the helm if the F1 side doesn't turn around. The books must be looking a lot better so maybe he can axe Seidl and buy some more time.

Whatever this upgrade is they are bringing better perform.

I agree with your take. If Checo doesn’t come out storming I could see Horner making some bullshite reason to “bench” Perez to see how Ric does.

Come to think of it, Ric is in the same spot Checo was two years ago. Kind of on the back end and probably at peace but still enough in the tank to push. Except Ric has killer instinct and Horner knows it. I could see Ric make a splash this year and unseat Perez. Sure would make for a hell of a DTS story line.
