Man I can't believe Carlos got a 5 second penalty.

Same exact situation that Russell got a penalty for when he took Sainz out at COTA last year. I do think it’s dumb that he was the only one penalized, because I definitely think Sargent and Gasley should get penalty points on their license. They probably didn’t penalize Gasly because that would result in him getting a race ban.
Either way, the red flag and subsequent standing start with 2 laps to go was some clown show BS. Should have just finished under safety car, or at very worst, had a rolling restart after the red flag. FOM trying to put entertainment ahead of sport with the BS standing start shootout…

What did Sargeant do?

So if those changes go through, there's only one practice session the whole weekend, and you can't make changes to the car after that? Is that correct?

So what would be the points breakdown at the Azerbaijan sprint race?

I agree, but they are saying under the current rules fp2 is worthless. They're just shifting the worthlessness and it's going to benefit the cars at the front. The rich get richer with the proposed setup.

Ran right up De Vries’s arse and took them both out of the race at the 2nd Red Flag Restart. They both ended up in the gravel.
He was probably distracted by the carnage in front of them, but still 100% his fault.

Definitely agree - but as it stands, the teams currently have 3 practice sessions to nail their setups. On Sprint weekends, Red Bull have a tendency to not get the setups just right, which can lead to some unexpected outcomes. Drivers don’t need 3 hours of driving around a circuit to get used to the layout, the 3 practice format is solely to the benefit of the engineers. I’d much rather we go to 1 or 2 practice sessions, and no more than 2-3 Sprint races per season. It wont happen because FOM has a hard on for the sprints, but one can hope.

I went back and watched the last lap and post race on my DVR last night. I was surprised it recorded 3.5 hours.

motogp and f2 can somehow make the Sprint race work but f1 continues to step on their dicks. Have the sprint race based on qualifying. Then have the Sunday race based on the same qualifying. 2 separate qualifying sessions? Only the FIA could up with something this stupid.
BTW the practice sessions are for working on the car. Eliminating them just increases the gaps in the field

you can have both without impacting teams ability to improve their car. With limited testing is the only time they have to test upgrades. Less practice just ensures the RB stays .7 ahead. No one will risk upgrades that torpedo their sprint finish and grid position on Sunday

exactly. Just line them up by points and have a Sunday race. Saves everyone money and the outcome is already predetermined so journos can write their stories on Thursday and enjoy the weekend off

Dang. Must've missed that.

Just read up on it and Sargeant claims his brakes didn't work and the tires locked up. But he really did just slam into the back of De Vries.

Yeah, they don't work if you don't press the pedal, Sargeant

Yea both should have been penalized. Not sure how they could look at those 3 incidents and determine that Carlos was the only one deserving. Granted that bump had a massive impact on the race but it just seems like it was the only one that effected how they wanted the race to end.

Didn't realize Gasly's would have essentially gotten him a race ban. That one cost their team big time, he had ran a really nice race prior to that.

The picking and choosing penalties is just frustrating as a fan. This one more than others because it was against my favorite driver but it just happens too often. I was already frustrated that they call a virtual safety car and then a red flag after teams had pitted, which screwed Russell and Carlos. It seems like if they change what type of safety they do after teams have already made decisions based of that, they should go back to the lineup when the safety first came out instead of penalizing teams for strategizing on their cautions. If that makes sense

Off Topic:

I follow NHRA and catch up mid-week as a fix for my need for speed. Matt Hagan under Tony Stewart Racing picked up a Funny Car win at this weekend's Winternationals. The link to F1 here is that Gene Haas swooped in and sponsored Hagans car in what feels like a rushed manor. The car wasnt full wrap (it was temp/partial logo) and Hagan was still in old sponsor bright green racing suit and helmet. It literally looked like a last second 30 minute vinyl HAAS logo on the car. Hagans post win interview was "glad to get a win for Gene". Yes, Tony Stewarts fiance is in NHRA and he is in Alcohol working on Nitro licensing, but its good to see Haas with a win outside of NASCAR. Pipe dream is Tony Stewart Racing somehow leverages success with Haas (Stewart-Haas) into F1.

This win will undoubtedly bring HAAS more into NHRA. Hopefully not less in F1.

It's Haas. It is not HAAS.

Look at Haas Automations website.

Yes, it annoys the frick out of me when people capitalize it like it's an acronym.

CHILL OUT

I typed that novel on my phone and the all caps sometimes gets fat fingered. I have my all caps to disengage on a space. You can see I wasnt consistent with caps.

Cool as a cucumber.

It's just one of those things. The Eurotrash on the Autosport forum always do it in all caps and it annoys the frick out of me.

Mostly because the majority seem to hate Haas F1 because they are the American team.

Well, I'm not a fan of those English cocksuckers so I guess we're even.
