However, with only one space left, Kyalami is competing against Belgium's Spa Francorchamps for an F1 contract.

It’s a global sport so they should have at least one race on that continent.
But Spa is like the $1.50 hot dog at Costco. Get rid of it and “I’ll effing kill you”

It's tough for venues/promoters in democratic capitalist countries to compete with the dictatorships who throw money at F1 with no concern to make their money back. F1 has become a national showcase event for most of the new locations. When events like Silverstone and Spa are threatened, you know F1 prioritizes money over everything else.

Hong Kong billionaire Calvin Lo tells @Reuters that he's looking at investing in potential F1 teams for 2026 but that Andretti isn't one of them and that F1 is "focusing too much on the U.S."

I'm okay with less focus on the US market if it means GP ticket prices go back to normal and the DTS crowd begins to lose interest.

My favorite circuit, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
If we lose Spa, we part of the soul of F1.

I think it's already happening, there's still a fair bit of Miami tickets left available with less than a month to go. People who bought to flip are no doubt losing their arse, keep in mind just a year ago I know of someone who bought tickets for like $1800 on sold them for $6000. I don't know if COTA is quite there yet, but getting close, but Vegas and Miami are out of price range for the common fan IMO and can use some coming down to Earth.

Speaking of, have two tix at face value (whatever it is we paid) to TD members, for Canada turn 1&2. Have to sit by myself, but also my SO who is a better version of me.
If no takers here they are going online.

Mine too. Monaco has the glitz but Spa is the most beautiful racetrack I've ever seen and provides great racing.

When is Canada? Might do that instead of Miami. Plus from this thread it seems you and I would get along. Mr Blutarski? You in?

Think the race is the 18th (Father's Day)
I was told we might have paid over face value, so I will have to see exactly the price. Think around 550 each.

Thanks for the rec. About halfway through episode 2, really like the explanations without resorting to analogies and such.
Also like when they lose track and start nerding hard and go way over the head of the average audience member.

I'll discuss with the wife when she gets back home tomorrow. We might go to Miami just for the race. It's an easy drive across the alley. But, it's fricking Miami.

Sent you a message. Yeah, we want to do Miami one year, but Montreal is kind of a trip and really did enjoy it last year. Want to do it again since it was pretty easy.

OK this isn't F1, it's WEC, but it's at the Algarve track in Portimão, which F1 has raced at twice in recent years. This is one of the craziest pics I've seen, a car that ended up in the stands. This isn't supposed to happen at a Grade 1 track!
