The ball was bouncing outside the 1 club length or closer to the hole.
If it does that twice, you get to place it.

I know. When he placed it, it sunk into the grass when he put it down. Then he tried again, sink, again, propped up, ball in play.

He hit a bomb blast the hole and it bounced off the grand stands and he couldn’t get a full swing because the grand stand was there… but if that was a tree he wouldn’t have gotten relief… then he basically got to place his ball in a very favorable lie.

I assume they agreed the grandstand was impeding his swing. I didn't pay attention when he was over it to see how close it was.
