I hope the drivers speak up after they're out if the country, if the hostage rumor is true.

Allegedly....

Some concern was raised that if they decided not to race would the Saudis hold them? How easy would it be to leave...

People keep referencing some WWE story that happened a couple years ago. Maybe someone knows about that.

Could def see that happening. They need to hurry up, get it over, and refuse to go back.

I had seen somewhere that the airports they flew into are closed so I guess it is possible to make it really hard for them to leave but I am sure they could just spend the $$$ and get to another airport somehow.

They have slogans, but no values.

What the Saudis have done in Yemen is barbaric. The Saudis are an awful people.

Bottas kind of made it make some sense, which judging by others was somewhat of a PR generated opinion.

He said, while as a driver I can't control where we race I hope that us bringing here can shed some light on what is happening.

Which probably does happen to some extent. Doubtful many would have seen or cared about that oil depot getting hit if it weren't for FP1. Jeddah was hit last week and it didn't make much of a wave.

I dont know that anyone is feeling bad for SA or the oil depot. I think it's more racing in a country who is having their chickens maybe come to roost?

They value money.

Which I am cool with. I just wish they would just admit it and stop all the social justice pandering (although I guess that is to get more money too, plus they are European)

I am sure there is a lot of clutching of pearls over on the Reddit F1 board.

The source of the hostage rumors.

bbc.com

quote:

BBC Sport has learned that a significant number of drivers had concerns about the safety of the event following the attack.

But eventually they were convinced to go ahead and race after being given further information by bosses.

Part of this information involved the possible consequences of not racing, such as how easily teams and drivers would be able to leave the country if the race did not happen.

The drivers would have to be complete morons to agree to ever return to Saudi Arabia in the future.

From the Saudi perspective, if they give you money, then they own you.
