I didn't realize there was only one ever produced. $30 million might be a low estimate giving its historical significance to Ferrari
The Ferrari 250 GT SWB Breadvan was built in an attempt to get revenge on Enzo Ferrari.

How does a 35-year old afford a $30M classic car like that, not to mention the other vintage cars in his collection?

He seems to be more interested in Triathlons than cars, yet has that collection.

Note also his daily is a 4Runner. Lots of the really wealthy people don't really show it when it comes to things like their daily drivers.

Because every mile on those antiques cost 100x a 4Runner.
One of our executive producers daily’s a 2018 Phantom and she’s openly said it’s her only car because of how expensive daily operation is but will not change cars.

I'm not suggesting he drive the classics as a daily. Jesus.

An E class, Escalade, whatever, but he chooses to drive a 4Runner. Feels no need to flaunt his wealth. Your producer does.

Actually years ago Denali owners had much higher net worth than Escalade owners. May still be true, and likely is, but I haven't seen any numbers on that recently.

In an episode of Drive to Survive, Carlos Sainz stated his daily driver is a VW Golf.

I'm pretty sure the 35 year old is the son, the older Monte Shalett seems to be in his 70s or so and raced the car in the 70s and 80s. From what I could find he owned it at least up until the early 2000s.

Woah bruh, you’re over revving. Wasn’t blasting you rather making a point and that is if these cars didn’t have operating costs equivalent to most annual mortgage payments, they’d be on the road more frequently inversely the cars wouldn’t have the value they carry if they had the miles of a daily.

You’re correct, my EP is absolutely the opposite of this guy and gives zero shits about a phantom with 80k miles and worth a fraction of its initial price and will likely drive it into the ground just because she wants to be seen in a phantom. In New Orleans. Where no one cares.

I agree with your Denali > Escalade. You see 10:1 denalis to Escalades in LGD.

Eta: not related to this but Amazon prime day has the G29 and G920 on 40-50% off if anyone is still looking for a wheel setup.

Was it Lando driving the McLaren that went grocery shopping and didn't know where the trunk was?

My dad had the opportunity to buy a Ferrari, I don't recall what model but it was only a few years old, for around $6k back around 1970.

It should be noted $6k was about the price of a new loaded Vette at the time.

Didn't pull the trigger and has kicked himself since.

It's been a crazy day on the twitter.

First, Chip Ganassi Racing tweeted that they exercised their option to have current defending IndyCar champion Alex Palou continue as one of their 2023 drivers:

https://twitter.com/CGRTeams/status/1546946366127087619

And then a few minutes ago, McLaren F1 announced that Alex is on their "driver roster" for 2023, although the specific seat has not been announced:

https://twitter.com/McLarenF1/status/1546998384963248130
https://twitter.com/AlexPalou/status/1546999772057313280

Edit: Oh whoops, the actual press release says he's joining as a test driver. No wait, the press release is kind of confusing:

quote:

McLaren Racing has signed champion driver Alex Palou to race for McLaren starting in 2023.

Alongside his racing duties next year, Palou will also test with the McLaren F1 Team as part of its 2021 MCL35M F1 car testing programme with fellow drivers Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta.

Alex Palou, said:
“I’m extremely excited to join the driver roster for such an iconic team as McLaren. I’m excited to be able to show what I can do behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car and looking at what doors that may open. I want to thank everyone at Chip Ganassi Racing for everything they have done for me.”

It sounds like he's leaving Chip Ganassi and actually racing for McLaren next year in some capacity (probably their IndyCar team). With Pato, Colton, and Alex on the radar, it looks like Danny's days are numbered.

Ferrari Classiche will provide all the support they need to get it back up and going.

There’s another big car collector in NOLA. He frequently drove a Daytona Coupe around town. That car got sold for a 50s Testarossa about 10-15yr a ago. He also had a black F50 that is very rare and has close to 100k miles.

As I understand you can get a part for about any Ferrari ever made from the factory.

Now, what that part might cost I do not know. Other than a lot.

The body on the Breadwagon is a bit different story though when it comes to repairs. It's a heavily modified Ferrari with custom panels. A talented guy can replicate it.

New F1 rules mandate "young" driver testing several times a year. Every team has to participate.

A lot of drivers will get tests as part of these rules.

Yeah I know. This was confusing for everyone on Twitter because after CGR announced that they exercise their option on Alex, the McLaren F1 account said Alex was racing for McLaren next year. Instead of just saying he is racing for the McLaren IndyCar team and testing for McLaren F1, they made it slightly ambiguous.

But I also think Zak Brown really wants an IndyCar driver to show that he's the next guy they should sign to McLaren F1, and preferably a McLaren IndyCar driver (so Pato or Alex). By demonstrating a McLaren IndyCar-to-F1 pipeline, they'll be able to sign the best young IndyCar and F2 drivers to the McLaren IndyCar team.

Zak is a marketing master. He knows getting an American driver in F1, for McLaren, would be huge for sponsorship.

I wish Haas had someone with half his talent for bringing in the dollars. Ol' Gene could be making a lot of money from the F1 team he basically started to market his CNC machine business if he wanted to. Apparently he doesn't.

The only American F1 team. Zak would pimp the hell out of that.

Haas seems to not want money. I know they signed Mazepin, but really they don't seem to care about landing or promoting sponsors.

I know they are effectively a Ferrari test team, but I’m wondering if they are getting some sort of subsidy from the scuderia. But that’s the only thing I can think of to justify haas lack of attempting to tap into the American market.

I know mick is on loan or whatever.
