Bucky C., you, and some others, like my Fightin' Tiger kinfolk, do enjoy motor racing as it's meant to be enjoyed, and, for that, I cheers you

From Seb:

Unrelated but motorsports related but I didn't want to make another thread.
The Ferrari Breadvan was wrecked last week at a LeMan event, today I learned it belongs/belonged to someone from NOLA, Monte Shalett. Estimated to be worth around $30 million.

Also, Ferrari is pissing me off with these engine problems. They are going to take themselves out of the cup race if they don't get it together. Felt so bad for Sainz. It was almost guaranteed he would have passed Max. Not that they would have let him pass LeClerc, but if he would would have been in those final laps he probably would have been fast enough to pass LeClerc. Max was gaining on him quick even with a slower car, Sainz would have had the fastest car on the track with 8 laps (about the time LeClerc started having issues?) to go. And obviously would have been a big points boost given that Checco was out.

Right now but have to be concerned if Ferrari Team engines are failing, no?
Guess it begs to question how much alteration does a customer team do to a bought PU?

None. But, the customer gets to run the same engine Ferrari does now. Wasn't always the case.
Ferrari might start angling for a reliability upgrade if this keeps up.

Can someone tell me how in this modern day and age, an engine can fail so spectacularly like that? Was it just spitting out pistons and connecting rods and valves there through Sainz's bodywork? I don't think I have seen an engine failure like that in F1 in a long time.
Also, I imagine this surely will cause Sainz to take an engine penalty later in the year. Right?

While I have seen some speculate this, in my opinion it was another failed turbo that sprayed oil around the engine area. The vapor igniting caused the appearance of an explosion that popped the bodywork.

Mag had a minor issue with his for most of the race to the point he said he was praying it made it to the end.

Nice thing about a $30 million car? You can't total it.
The Breadvan has been wrecked before. It'll be fixed again.

McLaren 'considering' Sebastian Vettel as one of three Daniel Ricciardo replacements
McLaren are reportedly 'considering' their options regarding Daniel Ricciardo's future if the Australian driver decides to quit F1 after this season. There were high hopes for McLaren when they stole Ricciardo away from Renault last year as Carlos Sainz's replacement.
Lando Norris regularly finished ahead in both qualifying and Sunday's races with the Brit only falling outside the top-10 once in all the races he finished. By his own admission, Ricciardo entered the 2022 campaign hoping for better results but McLaren have taken a backwards step this year.
The Aussie has finished inside the points just three times and sits down in 12th in the standings while Norris has continued to impress. McLaren CEO Zak Brown recently spoke out about Ricciardo's below-par performances, hinting that "mechanisms" are in place for a replacement to come in.
“I don’t want to get into the contract [details],” Brown said. “But there are mechanisms in which we are committed to each other and then there are mechanisms in which we are not.

How does a 35-year old afford a $30M classic car like that, not to mention the other vintage cars in his collection? Does he come from some kind of old money family in New Orleans?

Nothing can make Monaco a good race short of creating a fleet of 1960's vintage F1 cars for them to run.

I dont know these people, but from my very brief google search it looks like the family is very very wealthy from the oil industry.
