No, they didn't.
They are putting the one big upgrade on the car next month and then focusing on next year. They will still look to improve the upgraded car with minor parts.
It sounds as if the upgrade will be a B spec as it will look different.

Should Mercedes do the same? With FIA clamping down hard on the bouncing, the Mercs will have to run 3" Rough Country lift kits for the rest of the season. They will probably drop out of the Top 10 after Canada when FIA has said they will start disqualifying cars.

My IPTV sub has all the helmet cams if you want something that works on TV. Not picture in picture though.

Considering this porpoising situation and the races to date, what are everyone’s thoughts on the 2022 formula?
Posted on 6/17/22 at 6:15 pm to weagle99
I think they are fine and frankly don't give a shite about the porpoising "issues".
It's for the teams to figure out.

Leclerc taking new PU and 10 place penalty….
RB should extend the points advantage.

If you are RB, do you also take a new PU and penalty?
RB has a 2 podium spots this race in the bag if they don’t. They also could do an overcut and race Ferrari from the middle of the pack to not have to play catch up when they have an Inevitable PU penalty.

Why would you do that when you have a favorable track for max points.

No chance you do that
Their PUs may last one more quali or 7 more races, only they can really judge that...take the points when you can get them and be happy your rival is on the back foot
If you noticed, LEC is still using an older turbo, because going beyond turbo allocation is another penalty... as well as exhaust systems (8)... Alpine (particularly Alonso) is close to that number already
Lewis showed last year that the best time to take the PU penalty is during a sprint weekend... nobody is going to forget that performance...so unless your hands are tied, you take it then
What I find interesting is how wound up a lot of these PUs are... RBR and Ferrari... like rubberbands just waiting to snap... For all the shite we gave Merc PUs during the first race, we arent seeing those PUs detonate at the same rate as the others... just something to think about

It’s a two team race. Mercedes is quietly hanging in there for constructors championship but they are about to get neutered. There’s a good chance that Ferrari is going to be right behind RB regardless. RB takes the penalty, still qualifies Ahead of Ferrari and they both finish at the top of the field. The point differential is the same.

Squeezing 1,000 hp out of anything is a remarkable thing. Doing it out of 1.6L is a whole ‘nother thing. They are wound tight but the build tolerances are there.
I find it funny with Ferrari street cars, 20k miles is a lot. That’s nothing for high performance Mercedes cars. Their reputations shine through even in F1.

Why take it when you dont need it??
I understand the angle of points tally but we're at round 9 of 22... run those PUs as long as you can... dial them back a bit if you have to
Surely Ferrari will dial theirs back some so they dont take more penalties.. there is also the PU cost cap that comes into play... separate cost cap, but it's now a concern for Ferrari, and will definitely come into play towards the end of the season if nothing changes

Are they though??? For Honda and Ferrari, it's looking like they're wound too tight... nuts and bolts and tolerances should be ok, so I kind of agree with you there
The question is whether their engines need to be tuned down a peg, while they hopefully make aerodynamic changes to reduce drag and make other aero adjustments for this new formula to find speed
We're really analyzing 2 brand new engine specs for this year (for RBR and Ferrari) and watching these teams learn the intricacies of their motors on the fly... these are 2 brand new PUs and we're watching as they figure out the kinks

Leclerc taking new PU and 10 place penalty….
quote:
As a result, Leclerc is now certain to be hit by grid penalties further down the line for exceeding power unit components. Leclerc has already reached his maximum allocation of three turbocharges for the season, as well as two internal combustion engines, MGU-Hs and MGU-Ks.
Ahead of FP1, the FIA announced that Leclerc had taken a new internal combustion engine, MGU-H, MGU-K and energy store.
Shortly after the second session, it was announced that Leclerc has also taken a new control electronics and thus will incur a 10-place grid penalty.
