I wasn’t expecting them to bring back Kevin Magnusson.
Same here, I didn't even consider him to be interested given his comments when he departed F1. I like him though so glad to see him back.

Did not see this one coming.

Same, I had gotten my hopes up

Wow, Magnussen, I'm shocked. I thought his time in F1 was done.
He had been trying to get an IndyCar ride. I wonder if Magnussen had an IndyCar contract, whether Haas would have contacted him, and considering Grosjean's success and enjoyment of IndyCar, whether Magnussen would have jumped back to F1. A chance to win races vs. the glamour of being a backmarker in F1.
Well now we have a better way of evaluating Schumacher's potential.

Figured his time with Haas was done for sure. He has taken some swipes at them since leaving.

Me too. He was vocal about Haas on his way out and has stayed vocal about not going back to F1 for a team like Haas.
quote:
“The rest of my career will be only racing with a hope of winning,” Magnussen told RACER. “Whatever I do, I’m not going to go into anything if I know I can’t win, never again.”
Asked if that means he wouldn’t go back to a midfield F1 drive if offered, Magnussen replied: “No, I’ve been there, done that.

I suspect we'll see some legal back and forth between Haas and the Mazepins for quite some time. I saw in a video from The Race that the Mazepins are asking for their money back that they contributed so far to the 2022 season. Given the circumstances I'd say that's fair but wouldn't be shocked to see Haas fight to keep the money.

Andalucía is promoting themselves for the Russian Grand Prix slot.
What is the track like there?
I’d love to make it to Europe for a race this year. The location would make it an easy first choice for me.

I can see Haas claiming if they return the money they would be violating the financial sanctions imposed on Russia.

FYI, F1 TV Pro is 20% off for “new” subscribers…

Sepang was also rumored to be a replacement. Makes sense more for Sepang since it is a triple header on that side of the globe.

Thank god we are getting cars back on track soon and then next week the silly season will be officially over!

Well, it was rumored all week and Merc showed up today with "no sidepods"

FYI anyone with F1TV Pro the test session is live. I assume you will be able to stream it later.
In case someone is interested the P1 qualy lap in 2021 was right under 1:29 and the fastest race lap was 1:32.1 on a late race light fuel fastest lap run by Bottas. The fastest lap for a "real" race lap was 1:33.2.

Sidepods... who needs sidepods??
Had to have completely revamped the cooling system... wonder if the COG is a bit higher, a la Renault
I mean that's a whole new car... new floor, new sidepods, new cooling configuration

I guess we know where they were holding the sandbags

The first hour was boring, not very many timed laps at all and most of those were slow. Not surprising but still disappointing I wanted everyone out on hero laps immediately, it was never going to happen but I can't stay up all night.

I remember seeing how the Williams car had that hole in the top of the sidepod and went back and compared the two
They're very similar... Williams is using the top side impact structure as the top of the hole (choosing to attach the end down to the inlet), while Merc is using it as a fairing/canard... both have opted for the new cooling layout a la Alpine but the result is the same in having a very narrow body... I think Williams still has a bulkier side inlet compared to this new Merc, which is insane

It will be interesting to see how the shrink-wrapped cars deal with the mid-afternoon heat. The tire question in the heat will also be answered.
