The top ten is a nice mix and both Haas made it.

Also a question for the thread - who has the best chance to be an American F1 driver? Logan, Colton, or someone else? We need it badly.
I don't follow Indycar, but looking at Herta's results I don't get the hype.
Hell, Newgarten would probably be a better choice but he's 32.
The US just doesn't really have a good open wheel feeder system, so it reduces the number of good drivers. Look at how many foreigners drive Indycars. Hell, that was a big point of the split years ago. Tony George didn't like the fact Indy was overrun with foreign born drivers.

Pato O'Ward has an outside chance. Not sure if he resigned with Mclaren yet.
Don't think he is their top option as the next driver.

I just watched the W Series race. It was a fun, chaotic race, as you would expect with less experienced drivers and a spec car. The slower, smaller F3 cars seem well-suited to the tight sections of the track.
I'm mentioning it because from watching this race, I just get the feeling that there's going to be a lot of incidents in the F1 race. And I'm concerned that clean-up of crashes is going to be slow. I believe that the 1st lap and restarts after safety cars are going to be very entertaining.

I'm curious how the tire choices will go. I haven't heard much about how they have been for wear but I do know Mag ran a lot of laps on his softs and Chuck put his fast lap down on 10 lap old softs.
Apparently the track is rubbering in but they have been getting loose out of the low speed corners which will burn up the rears.

I know drivers are upset because they say it will lead to bad racing. But to me all those little things with the dirty part of the track causing issue will make for a hard, challenging, and entertaining race for spectators.
I get the feeling whoever wins this is going to be because last standing in war of attrition.

There's no question that Herta is fast. But he makes too many mistakes. Last year at Nashville he was the fastest driver, but as he was chasing someone down for the lead, he crashed into the wall. This year at Long Beach he felt pressure to do a great in lap for one of his pit stops, because it looked like someone's undercut was going to work. A couple of corners before making it to the pits, he crashed into the wall.
As they say in many sports, you can't teach speed. I guess the idea is that he shows the most promise because of his raw speed, but he really needs to up his game.

Showing full stands for qualifying. Impressive.

Herta is young, fast and has a last name American racing fans will recognize

Lewis had to have his arse pucker in that one turn where his backend got a little wiggle.
