Gunter said that bc of the crash in Saudi, they do not have a backup tub with them in Australia. I think HAAS is gonna have good race pace but has been ultra conservative not to pull a Latiffi in practice.
He even made sure to say how both drivers were keenly aware of their situation.
With the speed the car has shown previously, even being careful they should be out of Q1 with no problem.
They are fighting with fricking Williams.

Didn't they take away the 1-lap qualy to make the first 45 mins of the qualy more interesting, and also to negate some of the advantage/dominance Ferrari and MSC had in the early 2000s?

Race should be epic tomorrow. Leclerc and Verstappen just further proving how far ahead of their teammates they are and why they are the #1 driver on the team.
Wait, is McLaren really back? How they hell did they improve so much from Bahrain?
Also, holy hell the proposing on the Mercedes cars. It's like a fricking jack hammer going down the straights, both in terms of visuals and sound. Hamilton and Russell probably end up with a concussion at the end of every race thus far this season with all the shaking and bouncing.

It certainly brings more energy across the full qualy period. I don't deny that. Compared to the one lap qualy it also gives everyone a even chance at going late when the track is usually the fastest and takes the weather out of the picture at least it gives everyone an equal chance to be a hero or zero watching the radar.
I am specifically talking about when each driver got a single lap not when they had open qualy for an hour which indeed was boring until the end because the track almost always gets better. The 3 part elimination qualy started in 2006 after Ferrari had dropped off the pace (they only won the unusual US GP in 2005) so I don't remember much talk about it being aimed at MSC but it could have been in the plans prior to Ferrari's demise.
Good qualy, Leclerc looks strong but Carlos got screwed. Ferrari could have left him room for a second lap like Merc did but there are positives and negatives to that. Hated it for Alonso I really wanted to know how fast the lap was going to be.
It appears like Ferrari and RBR took a step up as did Merc and McLaren (more McLaren). I say this because the gaps behind the top two cars stayed similar to Merc and Macca but stretched out from some of the other mid-pack.

I really like the changes made to the track. Not so much the removal of the chicane, but the changes made to the slow corners. Turns 1, 3, 6, 11, and 13 have all been given more space on the inside. The positive camber is easy to see at Turns 1 and 3. The description says there's more positive camber at Turn 11 too, but I didn't notice it. I think the biggest change is at Turn 6, which provides a much faster entrance to the curvy backstraight created by the removal of the chicane. The whole track just flows better now.
Maybe it's just my imagination, but from the in-car cameras it looks to me like they have to attack these corners harder now and are more frequently skirting disaster on the corner exits.
(looks like F1 has already removed the 4th DRS zone from the track map!)

There's some talk that the track just doesn't suit the car and the reverse is being said of the McLaren jump in performance.
I don't recall a big update on the McLarens so it's possible it is car specific.
Or course the usual suspects are at the front so who knows.

Comparison of KMag and Bottas. Bottas 1 sec faster.
Note the speed difference on the straight without DRS where the Haas was porpoising badly. Interestingly Mag only lost .050 sec from the start of the bouncing to the brake point. So it really doesn't effect lap time terribly badly.

Note also Bottas got through 1-2 much better which gave him a faster run all the way to turn 3.
I also see that Ham was essentially the same speed as the Haas in the high speed sections. With and without DRS.

Woke up and watched quali at 1am, holy shite it didn’t disappoint…. Latifi is a disaster. Dude has turned into a liability.

Charles is looking damn good to start the season. Red Bull as a team hasn’t looked this good since the Max/Danny duo.

Never saw what Sainz did on his last attempt, sucks that he got screwed out of his lap by the red flag, but he has to be able to put the car better than 9th. I am assuming the Red Bulls will be able to use tactics to make Leclerc's race more difficult, but he may have the speed to overcome it.

Glad to see Ric perform… however, it’s Ferraris year.

Just watched qualifying. I think Red Bull wins this on strategy.

Alarm set for 1145. Will try to get in bed like 8 and get a few hours of sleep before the race.

I just plan on recording it and watching it when I wake up in the morning.

Gasleys one that may enjoy it, but I think Russell, followed by Hamilton more so.
