Kinda of off subject, but I saw a few pictures of Nascar attendance since Newman's wreck caught my attention. For the avid fan, what the heck happened to the popularity and attendance of NASCAR over the past decade or so? Man I remember being glued to the TV in my youth for Nascar events

this wreck would have been totally different

I've seen studies done about random wrecks. Talking regular people wrecks on regular roads.
There was an accident in which two of the four occupants died in a crash involving a car losing control going around a curve and hitting an immobile object. It was stated had the driver hit the brakes 1/16th of a second earlier, the other two occupants would have died. Had he hit the brakes 1/16th of a second later, a different pair would have died.
Scientific, yet almost seems so random

I wonder if Chastain would be willing to drive a Ford....

Wouldn’t surprise me if Roush brought back Trevor Bayne or Matt Kenseth, both of whom drove the #6 in 2018. They could also bring in Greg Biffle, or (perhaps most likely) bring someone up from the Xfinity Series.

If you're talking about Hamlin, The winner of the 500 used to have their car at the Daytona museum for year yes. Does it even still exist?

Wasn’t a lot of people there today because it was Monday. Race was scheduled for Sunday and was “sold out.”

But in general, yes attendance is down at pretty much every track. Daytona, Talladega, and Darlington are the few tracks that are still drawing relatively good crowds... maybe martinsville and Richmond too.... one that’s been disappointing the last couple times I’ve paid attention was Bristol. That used to rival the Super Bowl as far as how hard it was to get a ticket.

Daytona and Talladega have done away with their backstretch stands because attendance has declined so much from its peak.

ANYBODY named France needs to go.There's 20+ family members working for NASCAR and all of em have overseen the most dramatic fall of a pro sports brand in history.

It's over for all of em and that's why NASCAR is for sale They don't even have a title sponsor anymore.Pathetic and these guys wrote the freakin book on corporate sponsorship and sports commercialism.

Their stupid new playoff formula for determining championships which pretty much pissed on the first two thirds of the season. That and their sudden arrogance and overestimation of themselves in thinking they could go head to head versus the NFL in the fall and win the TV ratings battle.

The decline began when they abandoned their roots - and stopped calling it the Winston Cup.

NASCAR is taking Newman’s car and LaJoie’s car back to its R&D center for study.
