Assuming Aldridge leaves, they should give up on the season.
And they still have $14.5M more in cap room even if Aldridge does re-sign.
Either way using as much of the cap as possible is the play unless you are signing players to bad contracts, which you would have trouble convincing me this is going to be with the new cap.
