App State pulled off one of the greatest upsets in college football history beating the then #5 Michigan wolverines as BTN launched its programming in 2007!

2007 was the peak of college football.
It was a chaotic season with upsets nearly every week, and yet, that App State upset still remains the highlight.

1980's-2010ish was the golden age of CFB.
Had some ups and downs, but the advent of ESPN showing so many games, and the fact that players actually still were "students" and were on campus/in classrooms/interacting with peers was huge as far as keeping things grounded and relatable.
Saban and the REC buying the best rosters starting in 2008 with a blind eye turned by the NCAA began the decline and NIL/portal transfer rules was the death blow. Anyone who thinks he bailed for any other reason is a fool. He saw the writing on the wall and realized he was about to be back in an NFL situation as a head coach with no ability to control his players, and no advantage with getting the cream of the crop every year.
Having his buddy Emmert running cover at the NCAA gave him carte blanche, and when that advantage went away it was over.
Nothing left but an NFL minor league tryout camp every year now.
AKA NCAA D1 college football.
I honestly would rather watch the D2/D3/NAIA playoffs now because they are real student athletes who play for their teammates/school instead of a paycheck and their ego.

For me, the 2008 season was just as memorable and probably my favorite college football season where Ohio State didnt win the national championship. You had USC vs Ohio State early in the season (which turned into a dud), USC losing to Oregon state in a pac 10 Thursday night game, Tebow's speech after losing to Ole miss, nick saban's undefeated regular season at Alabama announcing his program was about to become a juggernaut, Crabtree's catch to upset Texas, Saban vs Meyer 1 in the sec championship, oklahoma's high powered offense, Rich Rod's embarrassing first season at Michigan, and probably a lot more I'm still leaving off.
2007 (rightfully) gets all the hype, but 2008 was a great sequel.

I remember walking towards Jordan-Hare to watch Auburn play K-State when there was several big commotions throughout the tailgate area we were at. We stopped at one camper where they had their satellite TV set up and watched the replay of the blocked kick. It was the talk of the party for the next few hours before the Auburn game kicked off.

Yeah, there were never any pictures of bammer players/recruits posing with their new cars all blinged out that were worth more than the damn house they lived in when in HS.
And the suits they were wearing from T-Town worth thousands when they were "poor college students".

Trent Richardson had 2 kids before age 18 and was driving an Escalade around Tuscaloosa, anyone gtfo of here if they don't believe they were cheating. I mean there fans kill trees and beat their spouses because they lose a football game, they are sick in the head. Saban didn't want to quit coaching... he tapped out because it became an even playing field.
