I ran the mile in high school a long time ago and I wasn’t bad at it. This dude would have beat me by about a quarter of a mile. In a mile race.

My fastest mile time in high school was 5:18. This kid would have lapped me.

My useless arse is just happy to be under a 9 minute mile right now. The fastest mile I ever ran was when I did cross country in high school. And it was only a 6:27

That’s a very good time! It’s crazy what a big deal it was when Bannister broke the 4 minute barrier. I ran a 5:01 as a 12 year old with no training. Just entered some race that my friends dad was putting together for his track club. Won my age group easily by about 40 seconds. Lots of people could run a sub 4:00 mile with focus and training. If I had focused on it and trained, I would have cracked it by 15 or 16 easily.

But I hated running and thought it was stupid. Still do. If I’m going to run, it’s going to be for a reason like chasing some kind of ball around.

Why are there only like 60-75 that actually do? Top 50 from last year ends at 3:57.5

That's about what I ran at 12 and so started training a little bit and ran 4:45 at 13. But improvement comes slowly after you make those big leaps when you first start training. I ran faster as a HS senior but not under 4 minutes.
