I’ll never forget, as someone completely lost when it comes to competition swimming, hearing the announcer saying, “and we’ll have to make up some time, against Bernard, who is 6’5”.

That French team was a monster and he was such an imposing figure.

And we got em. Somehow we beat them.

I’ll never forget it.

ETA: with half a lap left, “The U.S. is trying to hang on, they can get the silver medal.”

Lol

Legged out an infield single on the 0-2, pulled a hammy stepping on first.

It somehow made me feel ok with myself

I can’t remember what year it was but I’m still in my 30’s so I at least have that going for me.

First thing I thought when watching that was... I remember this moment because I had to drive my uncle's car because we went to a party after my cousins little league baseball game. I was the one not drinking, old enough to drive but not drink. The party freaking erupted when that finish happened.

All 8 teams beat the previous world record that day. Bernard swam the 3rd fastest split of the day, and Bousquet swam the second fastest split of the day for the French, but Lezak bested them both by more than half a second. Still the fastest split in history.

Following Phelps and the swim team during the 08 Olympics is one of my favorite sports memories. That was some great sports history we witnessed right there.

That relay plus Phelps winning his singles butterfly event by .01 seconds was insane. I’m not sure I’ll ever see anything quite like that again.

That "Somehow" is Jason motherfricking Lezak. And he was a monster in that race. I'll never forget watching that shite live and him riding the dude's wake and picking up speed. It was that moment that I realized I didn't know shite about competitive swimming. Never even would have guessed that riding someone's wake was a thing.

I think I was in a restaurant at the beach, and the place was going nuts. It was really cool.
