10u baseball championship game- too young for intentional BB?

Saw a game today where parents were bitching about a coach intentionally walking a kid at a 10u game.
It was a championship game, last inning. Game was tied and the home team had 1 out and a runner on 2nd with their best hitter coming up. The kid was 2-3 the two kids behind him were 0-6.
I think it’s fair game. They’re 10 and can understand that’s part of the game. Now if it were empty bases or some shite like that, then it’s bush league. But in that situation? That’s just smart baseball IMO.

The first time I ever watched Jacob Pearson, Josh’s older brother, play he was intentionally walked 3 times in 1 game. He was 9.

nah, plunk him with a fastball so he’s got something to think about next time up.

Intentional is dumb
Throw 4 in the dirt or 4 high fastballs and hope he goes for it

I know you know 10u catchers kinda suck

It’s lame. Championship or tournament game? Maybe I could understand it.
When I was coaching 10u rec league ball years ago, the opposing coach intentionally walked my best hitter twice in one game, and if I remember right, it wasn’t even in the proper scenario either time. It was one of the douchiest things I’ve seen on-field in a regular old Rec league game. Nothing on the line here, just a Tuesday night at the local park. Let the kids hit.

Having fun is a part of Little League Baseball. So is learning to play the game of baseball.
It set up a force play at third. As it was in a championship game and it was a legitimate baseball strategy the game situation called for, then it was not only “ok” but the right thing to do.
It’s not quite Buttermaker telling a kid to lean into a pitch. (Risk injury to win at all cost).

In that situation (1st base open and 1 out) that is the correct baseball play

my coach in the 6u USSSA tee ball championship intentionally walked a kid. got the next out. tee ball world series champs. no regrets. you play to win the game

this is just an incredibly easy conversation.
since it was legitimately the correct baseball decision, it's fair game.
at 9 i would have been so pissed if my coach didnt do this. not saying the kids are in charge but he has an obligation to his team as well.

When I was in 10u I would've known that is good strategy. Absolutely part of the game and a beautiful part of baseball.

I think coaches in little league baseball, are too caught up in either winning or losing games. The point of little league baseball, is to improve the kids baseball skills and knowledge. That is all that matters in Little League. Could have used it as an opportunity, for that pitcher to learn how to pitch against the best hitters in the league.

The kids are learning to play the game of baseball. Intentional walks are part of the strategy of baseball. If you don’t want teams to take advantage of baseball strategies until a certain age, put it in the rules. If you’re not going to, stop whining.

Sounds like a legit move. Play to win.
