Not really... I hate the WC to be honest and feel it should be top 3 DS winners with top seed having time off. But at least it makes people more interested and keeps teams in the playoff race longer

A first round bye would actually hurt a team tremendously. Their timing would be off and they would be rusty from not playing for so long. It's not a coincidence that whenever a team with a long layoff (2012 Tigers, 2007 Rockies, 2006 Tigers) plays a team that went through a tough, lengthy series (2012 Giants, 2007 Red Sox, 2006 Cardinals) in the World Series, the team with the long layoff usually plays like shite and gets hammered.

If you don’t like the WC then you don’t like the best of baseball.

This doesn't even make sense. The wildcard wasn't even added period until 1994, and this new format has existed since 2012. So you're saying if you don't agree with everything MLB baseball does then you just don't like baseball? If the MLB wanted "the best of baseball" then they'd do away with divisions entirely so that the teams with the best records were in the playoffs every year.

At the end of the day, I have no probably with a "wild card round," I just have a problem with it being a 1 game, winner take all, format. That's not how baseball should be played to determine who advances.

Im a traditionalist but it's grown on me. Instant game 7 to start the playoffs, pretty cool IMO

The Royals won 95 games that year and deserved that type of advantage. Home field in MLB really isn't that big of a deal

I'm playing devil's advocate because I do think there is some validity to it. Over 162 games the Indians won one more game than the Astros. now the Indians have multiple advantages over the Astros. The Yankees have less time to scout the Indians, threw their best arm out there (i know he only pitched for like 5 minutes but still) and now have less rest time before playing again.

The Astros play the Red Sox who have their #1 on normal rest and both teams have the same exact number of days off etc.

Why should the Indians get such a huge advantage over the Astros?

im not a big fan of this setup, but i like the way it was before with the wild card

Having four postseason teams in each league was really the perfect playoff system. I don't know why MLB had to tinker with it. Well, I do know why. Because their postseason TV ratings were dismal and they needed to do something to bring a jolt back into the sport.

5 of the 10 WC teams have advanced past division series. It's not a huge sample size but I just don't see it as giving the Indians that big of a leg up over the Astros. In this specific year I would rather be playing Boston than New York honestly.

Other than Having Chris sale redsox are an inferior team. In just about every way to the Yankees. That NY bullpen is the best in baseball.

and to think they have a guy like Nick Rumbelow just chilling in the bullpen in AAA who had a 0.69 ERA this season and 0.83 WHIP

Let me just say this. If the Astros were the 1 seed, and you switched the Red Sox/Yankees in the game last night, every Astros fan, including me, would be happy as a pig in slop today, since Sale wouldn't be available.

they should have separated themselves in the regular season.

Eh, both leagues the #1 WC team finished 6 games up on #2. That's substantial separation.

I would rather make it a 3 game series over 2 days... either all at WC1 stadium, 2 at WC1/1 at WC2 or a neutral site.

OP is dumb. 1 game WC is the best "postseason tournament modification" that's been made in any team sport.

First of all, no that's not why it was made. It was made because there were actual ties at the end of the season so they had one game tiebreakers to see who made the playoffs. People liked the drama so they came up with a way to do it every year even when there wasn't a tie.

Actually it was. You can think what you want but the stated reason from selig was that he wanted to make both late season races more interesting by making the division championship more valuable I.E. there needed to be a downside to being the wild card. The WC had won 3 straight WS in the early to mid 2000s+ teams had started resting players rather than going for the division win because "hey there's really no big downside to being the WC"

You can believe what you want but this is the stated reasoning and even if it was for ratings who cares? They didn't win the division so they don't deserve special treatment and it is a really fun game.

Who cares if you finished 3 games ahead of the other WC team? Maybe they played in a tougher division? Neither team won there division so who cares. You get instant game 7 drama. If you don’t like the WC then you don’t like the best of baseball.

I dont agree with this argument, you could say the same thing about divison winners and who has home field advantage.

I like the way they do the 2 wild card system in the korean baseball leaugue. The 2nd wild card team has to win 2 games, while the first wild card team only has to win one. Keeps it from turing into a 3 game series and rewards the team that finishes higher in the wc standings.
