AL Playoff team run differentials
Indians +254
Yankees +198
Astros +196
Red Sox +117
Twins +27

as a stros fan obviously i was rooting for the twins, but at least this is a tougher series for the Indians

Not really... I hate the WC to be honest and feel it should be top 3 DS winners with top seed having time off. But at least it makes people more interested and keeps teams in the playoff race longer

I'm fine with it. If you don't win your division you should have to face extra adversity for a chance at the world series.

Same. You didn't win the division. You're lucky to even be in the playoffs.

I didn't like the idea at first, but it's grown on me.

I Will always hate it after watching chipper lose his last career game in the first year they implemented this. Lost to a Cardinals team that finished ~8 games behind the Braves and wouldn't have sniffed the playoffs in the old format. End rant

Same here. And it's given us some really entertaining games.

I like the setup, but it didn't really work out great this year. The gap between the wild card teams was pretty pronounced in both leagues this year.

why?

Think of it more as an extension of the regular season. The goal for that game isn't for the better team to win, they should have separated themselves in the regular season. It's a second chance they're given and for people to be entertained.

Well if they had juiced balls that year like they did this year, that Braves teams would have at least made it to the World Series. That team was set up perfectly for K/BB/HR.

Here's where I don't like it. Many times the 2 wildcard teams have been one team that played a team that finished 4+ games behind the other. If it was just an extension of the regular season, one game shouldn't put the trailing team over the top. This game also comes down to where each team is in the rotation with the game being played right after the regular season. In a sport like baseball, winner take all games are stupid. For instance, the Braves were 6 games ahead of the Cardinals in 2012. They had an identical record to the West Champion Giants. Cardinals win one game, they go to the playoffs.

This game was created for money, nothing more. If they want to make it reasonably fair, have a 3 game series at least.

Me too, and I like the urgency of it too. Go all in to stay alive, gives a different twist to the series model in baseball and I think it's different (something baseball usually is loathe to try)andrefreshing. I'm good if they keep it just the way it is.

Ok. My team is up by more than one game so even if the lose this game then I'm still going to be in the playoffs...oh wait what?? It only comes down to this game? Oh so this isn't just an extension to regular season.

Exactly why it's stupid. If the goal isn't to get the best team in the playoffs then it's just some gimmick bullshite for ratings.

I did. That's why I have a better record than the other wildcard team.

We might as well just take the division winners and have a random drawing for the wildcard team. If anyone complains we can just say, "should've separated yourself in the regular season".

Get rid of the divisions; they are phony constructions.
Top 4 make the playoffs; maybe 5 and 4/5 can do a 1 game playoff if people like that.

The only people who don’t like it are just bitter fans because they got bounced.

Who cares if you finished 3 games ahead of the other WC team? Maybe they played in a tougher division? Neither team won there division so who cares. You get instant game 7 drama. If you don’t like the WC then you don’t like the best of baseball.
