Top 4 seed teams this year had 3 weeks and 5 days off. That much time off does not benefit a team. No byes, top 16, 1vs.16, 2vs15, and so on. I would go as far as no automatic bids, teams aren't loyal to conferences anyway, it has only caused controversy and mismatches. AP poll, coaches poll, use a power poll, no committee, to pick top 16.

And do away with CCGs.

Added bonus the season finishes by 1/1 & the calendar isn’t completely fricked to hell.

The NCAA is truly run by retards & should be dissolved.

It would definitely benefit a team to have a long break if they have a bunch of injuries.

Put the the long break sucks in general for a team and for the fans.

They should get rid of byes altogether… But that would mean going to 16 teams... They certainly arent going to go to eight teams.

Won’t happen. Too much money from tv to be made.

This also sucks, but it’s not as egregious as the calendar… and the biggest problem with the calendar is the utterly ridiculous fact that CFB season will not be over until Jan 20th.

Not sustainable. I sound like a broken record, but for the umpteenth time… NCAA what are you even thinking here?

The CCG’s don’t even make much since anymore. There’s no longer an east and west to win in the SEC, so you’re just taking the top 2 teams to play. You potentially can have one of the teams knocked out of the playoffs too with a bad loss in the CCG.

I'm sure that academics are playing a part here… or at least the illusion of it

I’d give only the #1 and #2 seeds a 1st round bye. Everyone else plays. If you’re #1 or #2 and cannot win your first game, shame on you!

Hard to keep youngsters disciplined and engaged for that long

If you need 3 weeks and 5 days to recover, the rest of the team will suffer. 1-7

The 1-7 record is a little misleading. Two of the bye teams last year were Boise State and Az State. They were not top 4 teams last year.

And I don't think Texas Tech deserved the bye over Oregon or Ole Miss. but I believe the committee favored them because they didn't want another Big Ten or SEC team getting a bye.

At this point, the biggest issue is conference title games. The automatic bids are the only reason, other than money, that they are still being played. They shouldn’t exist and waste an entire week of December.

The fix is actually pretty simple. Move the start of the regular season up a week in August. By doing so, you guarantee every team has two bye weeks during the season. The season wraps up the weekend before Thanksgiving. Every team has a bye the week of Thanksgiving, with the exception of Army/Navy, which is played that Saturday.

The playoffs start the following week. The semifinals are played the Friday/Saturday before Christmas, and the title game is on New Year’s Day, unless that falls on a Sunday, in which case the game is played on the 2nd. The transfer portal opens the day after the title game is played.

I agree, not only the long layoffs. The auto bids or just as much at fault.

I hope they go to 16 teams because I'd like to see a Four-Loss Bama team in the Playoffs.

Eye-Test.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is not rocket science. D3/D2 have been doing 16 team playoff brackets since 88’ and 99’. Both have expanded the field as of recently, but this should be accomplished for D1 without any issues. I think it’s sad and pathetic that it has taken this long to get to 12, and I completely agree the “committee” needs to be removed from the equation altogether. I can’t stand when the media and them use the term, “eye test”!

Which defeats the purpose. Optics like that should never factor into these seedings.

This committee is terrible and a step back from the formulas of the BCS era

The fact that the sport transcends semesters now is why the transfer portal timing is so fricked.
