Your thoughts on AMC?

Friends,
This summer I joined AMC’s A-List, which gets me three movie tickets each week, 10% off food orders, free size upgrades on popcorn and drinks, and no fees on tickets. It is but $20/month. It has been such a wonderful thing returning to the movie theaters, where movies are made to be seen. While many are talking about cord cutting, which I did over a decade ago, I wonder if we may one day talk about damming the stream. Watching three movies each week is more than enough entertainment and I have zero interest in ever watching TV or movies at home, not with my AMC membership. I could wax on the importance of watching movies together in a theater, but Nicole Kidman has done that better than I could.
Anyway, I made substantial profits on AMC back in the meme days of 2021. Stock has tumbled to $7.90. What do you think about the stock?

AMC is fighting off bankruptcy, and their decisions show that. Splitting into a meme coin, and then reversing that choice just a few months later was just an attempt to drive revenue. It didnt work.

The short squeeze and retail frenzy around AMC is probably the only reason you can still trade the stock. Biz is a falling knife and they're flailing. Kinda sucks cause I love going to the movies a few times a year, which leads to my second follow up: who even has time for 3 movies a week at the theater except for retirees?

Friend,
The monthly chart will usually tell the story. If you ignore everything that happened from January 2021 - August 2023, it's right back where it should be.

The only thing more arse than the current state of cinema, is AMC's stock.
It's going to zero.
It's going to zero.

If you look a little deeper than “muh price chart” you’ll see that OBV and FTD data are going nuts. Price could drop further, but hf’s would have to counterfeit the crap out of shares to hold back what’s coming

I cant believe the AMC pumpers all finally gave up.

Friend,
It would appear so, but I am really enjoying returning to theaters. It is so much better than watching a movie at home, so I wonder if others will catch on and we will see the rebirth of cinema popularity.
The new Taylor Swift concert movie premieres in about three weeks. I got the A List early preview email today and went to the site to buy a ticket. In that short while between opening the email and going to the amc site, two of the IMAX showings on opening night that I wanted already sold out. These were $25 tickets too. AMC is going to make a lot of money on this Taylor Swift thing. These are 350 seat theaters, so that’s $9000 on tickets alone each showing. If theaters can find ways to bring people back to the theater, like the Taylor Swift concert movie, there is a lot room for profit.
There has never been a better time to be a moviegoer than right now. The theaters are hardly ever full. The moviegoers all seem respectful and quiet. Concessions, when adjust for inflation, are cheaper and better than ever. The quality of the average theater movie is up. And the AMC A List membership makes my average cost around $1.50/movie.
There really is no reason to have a television anymore. The theater is where I go for all movies. And each week I spend less than eight hours in front of a television or silver screen, far less than the average American. Seeing dazzling images on a huge silver screen is so much better than an 85” TV.

Which index fund has it?
Enjoy your movies, invest your money in some index funds.

Everyone has different taste in movies and entertainment. In my case, I find it difficult to find three movies per year that suit my taste, much less three per week. But then again, I don’t have kids and I have less than zero interest in anything Taylor Swift related and I’m not into super heroes or talking dogs. But if I could find a theater which showed classic movies from the past on the big screen, yeah, I’d probably go at least three times a week to see things like Grand Prix, Le Mans, The Godfather or concert films with The Rolling Stones or The Who. Getting the big screen experience with films like that would be great!
But I know that that’s just me, and I know that my taste in films, fashion or TV shows doesn’t match the current societal trends. As for AMC stock, sorry, but I wouldn’t buy that one with an enemy’s money.

It’s a total piece of diluted trash. They did two reverse splits back to back within days because of so much dilution. Been a shorts wet dream tbh.

Welcome to A-list, I've been on it for 5 years now and have loved it as a person who still enjoys going to the movies. I think a lot of people who dont go to the movies dont realize how much it's changed. Seat reservations for every seat, pick out your seat in a big comfy leather recliner, etc...The Dolby Cinema format is also fantastic with the HDR 4k/8k and dolby atmos sound. Really is a game changer for movie watching. I'm a tech nerd though so I really enjoy that stuff.
That all being said, I typically go to 2-3 movies per month, so the membership easily pays for itself at $22/mo I think it is, and so many movies I go to I might be the only one in there or with 4-5 other people. AMC is NOT doing well at all and the A-list program just isnt getting enough traction. It doesnt help when some friends of mine come to movies they always are taken aback by the ridiculous price of just the movie ticket. A dolby cinema ticket is $21+ tax by itself. Unless you catch their $6 ticket days I think it is on Tuesday night, its really not cheap to go to the movies any more just in buying the ticket. Used to be the tickets were never that expensive the concessions were just massively overpriced. Now the ticket and concessions are massively overpriced. The membership makes a TON of sense if you go just 2x a month, even if you go to 1 dolby cinema showing it basically pays for itself which is crazy to think about.

Friend,
Thank you! I value my A List membership more deeply than my Sam's Club membership. I find concessions reasonable today. The large popcorn and large drink combo is only $17 with the discount and both include unlimited refills. They say the popcorn is just one refill, but my guys tell me to come back for as many refills as I want. I usually finish with three large popcorns and four to five large drinks. If you were in a family of four, all four could split that. All things considered, I would say the price of popcorn and drinks, therefore, is cheaper today than back in the 90s.
Why more people are not doing A-List is confounding. The experience of movie watching is a million times better in a theater than at home. I too have noticed how few people are in most movies, which is why I have hesitated to purchase any AMC stock. But with streaming services annoying more people and people, I hope, desire a better experience -- "dazzling images on a huge silver screen" -- I have hope that AMC can rebound.

On the surface we love A-list....But I will tell you that I just looked at my account history and it has been sort of hit or miss for me.
Basically you need to see 3 movies in a month to make it worth it. Well looking back over the last year I had 2 months were I did not go at all. There was one month I went to 4 movies. Six where I went to 3 movies and then 3 months were I went to 2 movies.
U put the average price at $12 as some were matinees and some were at night. Night movies here are $14.50 and matinees are $10.
2 is breaking even...
3 is being $12 ahead
4 is being $24 ahead.
I went to 28 movies in the calendar year. So I see that as $336 in value. I spent $264 with tax.

I love going to the movies, but they put out alot of garbage now. AMC will be lucky to avoid bankruptcy.

Friends,
We are up 29% on the AMC stock since posting this message two weeks ago. The concert movie sales I think are going to be a reliable source of income for AMC in coming years. The Swift and Beyoncé concerts are going to be huge movie hits.
