I'm betting on Southwestern and Delta as being strong enough to pull through while I'm staying away from United and American or the smaller carriers.

Am I missing something?

I bought DAL at the bottom. Probably should have gotten some SWA too

Business travel is the key. Once that gets back to pre Covid levels airlines will be just fine. The problem with that is, zoom and other web based platforms according to some experts are going to revolutionize the business meeting and airfare/hotel is going to be a thing of the past. I guess we’ll see.

I think American goes down. Delta, United, and Southwest pick up their fleet and gates. The smaller carriers are toast.

FWIW, my company has still banned travel for the foreseeable future - as has our competitors. Business travel is not picking back up anytime soon.

It is ... until it isn’t and people have already figured that out.
Will some business travel be curtailed, sure but there is absolutely no replacing ones physical presence at a project, meeting, or event.
We were already using zoom before Covid-19 but only when scheduling/traveling conflicts were too restrictive.
Ever try a sales pitch over zoom? Tough...tough to do business that way.

We all agreed it was a great back up but not the most effective way to do business for our company. Covid hasn’t changed our opinion

Delta

Had one of the stronger balance sheets before Covid.

Additionally, I don’t believe our political leaders will allow one of the major airlines to fail at this point.

SWA and SAVE. Low cost domestic carriers. First to rebound. Best balance sheets prior to covid.

I’d say that qualifies as an oxymoron, no?

I bought DAL too early during the Rona. Still down 25%. At least I'm up pretty nicely on RCL and BUD

I say American, only because I hate that airline. A lot of people bag on SWA, I love them. I hear Spirit is strong financially. They should be, they charge extra for everything.

Have not considered this. Good thing I don’t have airlines stock anymore.

I just don’t see business travel coming back anytime soon.

My bud is a sales leader and traveled all the time - his company won’t let him travel - but they are making good on bonus pay for now...so he is just zooming

Well, it’s something that I think every investor should consider. I think the days of in person sales meetings and conferences could be a thing of the past. This would also decimate large convention cities like Orlando, Vegas and New Orleans.

You can’t network nearly as well as at face to face conferences.

Unfortunately I underestimated Zoom, passing it off to be a pandemic play. Same for Telehealth. When the next batch of IPO’s come around, I hope to not miss.

Networking in person is obviously the best but you have to wonder especially the younger generation how they’ll utilize these web based applications and do a more virtual approach than in person

American won’t survive if this keeps up.
Southwest is the best positioned.
Independent Regionals are fricked.

I can’t believe I was months away from investing tens of thousands into an airline pilot career. Dodged a bullet.

I like LUV better than ZM over the next year. Air Travel will come back. The fact that fuel prices have dropped as much as they have will make air travel much more affordable and when people are comfortable again they will fly. See 9/11. Here is an example, I flew to Bozeman for Labor Day last year for $880 round trip, this year I did it same time frame for $220. Zoom meetings suck for training, conventions, selling etc. Companies will take advantage of the lower rates, my company already is.

I own TDOC for the moment but be careful here because insurance companies are already attempting to pay less for tele-meetings than face to face in some instances. Most of my Docs are already getting away from Tele-health for multiple other reasons as well so I am watching it closely.
