I'm assuming it is too, not sure how you miss the whole "What was your starting salary" title..

I'm glad I got some seemingly honest answers. I am nearly 100% certain I am getting an offer from the internship I did this summer so was curious what other people started off at. Someone in the position got hired last year at 62,500$ and there are built in raises (guaranteed not based on experience) that I should qualify for that he didn't. The companies stock is up some 10-20% from that time as well so it isn't like they are hurting

Hopefully I will be a happy

I don't know any CEs making that kind of money.

It's very possible

Even if you stay on the design side, try to get into plant-related work and don't think you have to stay in one place

Plants and O&G are on a whole other level compensation wise

Skip the MBA go into the structural path with a private consulting firm in BR or Houston (petrochem). With a good work ethic those numbers can easily be achieved.

ETA: Your PE is a must. After you obtain it the sky is the limit

The job market can be shaky but prove yourself and you should have no problem finding a place even during the down turns

Thats the best thing about CE. When things get slow in one sector you can always move to another. In 2009 when things got ugly, I did some municipal for a short stint and then went to the construction side. Now that I'm back on the design side I realize how valuable that experience was. Take advantage of the slow markets and come back better than before. CE is the most diverse of all Eng degrees, and you'll always have somewhere to go with it.

Does a pharmacist salary increase substantially over time or is in pretty static?

In recent years the salaries have been going way up due to a shortage, but as schools have begun to graduate more they are leveling off. My wife start out at about $40/hr retail in 1999 and when she quit to open her own she was about $60/hr in 2006. $65-70/hr is what the big chains are paying here now I think. Less working in independent stores with less stress and better hours.
