re: What do you spend $ on more than most people...

High: I "spend" a much higher amount on my savings/trading account than most because I'm still holding on to my fantasy of retiring at 40 and traveling the world by bicycle. I probably put ~50% of my net income towards this...so much so that I always feel like I have no money (to spend)
. As long as no She Devils or Mini-Me's tie me down, I'm all set
Low: Booze, which is probably a good thing because I drink a lot. Got used to the cheap stuff as a bartender some time ago and haven't looked back

High: super premium and craft beers, way too much money on this, ceramic grill and top end lump charcoal (the cheap shite is close to useless on low and slows or high temps due to ash), food to cook on said grill, travel, not front end on dog acquisitions but definitely on their care and food. Last and not least, my wife's ridiculous overspending of her home improvement project.
Low: Vehicle is 8-years old and paid off 6-years ago, paid off mortgage on reasonable priced home until the HIP, electronics as in Vizio HD instead of Sony, box wine, cell phone and plan, dumped the Blackberry a few years ago.
Zach, if my wife spent $4k-6k a year on books then I would take up hunting again, that is sick.
Frick it, I have to go get a Sam Smith organic lager out of the beer fridge. I am still planning on splurging for a kegerator, too, with all the money I saved dumping that damn blackberry plan.

Hey, I'm thankful. My first wife spent twice as much on clothes that she never wore. She just liked shopping for clothes. She threw them out with the tags still on them.

Well, I suppose the upside is you don't have as many books lying around the house with the Kindle. Just think, she could have paid for that lap pool in 5-years if she gave up speed reading.

My wife reads a lot too, so I feel Zack's pain.

High end: Books. At least 4K a year and that's with Kindle.
Low end: Jewelry. She has a lot of watches but never buys bracelets, ear rings, rings or necklaces.
What time does your wife come home, cause I think we might be married to the same women.

High: travel/eating out, wife's jewely.
Low: everything else, I drive junk, and my play things are all old. I am down to one dark suit, and a single pair of dress shoes, someone damn important is going to have to die before I wear them again.

High End: LSU Sports Travel.
Low End: Food (generic for the most part) and clothes. I'm an outlet mall/tj maxx guy.

High End: Not really high end but more a disproportionate percentage of income: Car parts and related stuff. 1 full blown frame off resto, one 4x4 project and a hauler besides mine and the wifes daily drivers. Not to mention ATVs (3) or the boat and jetski.
Low end: some food - store brand when I can. Clothes - discount store type places - TJ Max

You don't understand. She spent 6K a year on hardbacks before she got a Kindle. She's a speed reader and doesn't believe in libraries.
That is a shame on teh library bit, it saves a lot of money. And some libraries allow you to check out e-books.
My goal is to read 2 books per week, and for this year, I have only missed it 3 weeks. I have probably spent about $250 on books, the rest is from the library.

High: Dress shoes. I think they are an investment and well worth the $200-300 I'm willing to pay. College--40k a year. LSU Football travels--at least one away game a year and sometimes more. I go back to BR for the major home games too, probably make 6-7 LSU games a year, while going to another school
Medium: Gas--only name brand, but I get regular. Clothes--again, I like dressing nice and typically the clothes I buy are your name brands...but I buy them on sale.
Low: Generic food is fine. Pretty much everything else...I don't spend a ton of money. I don't know if I will even own cable when the time comes for me to pay for it.

Sorry to highjack, but my wife was spending a lot on books too. I found Paerback Swap for her and she absolutely loves it. We were considering a kindle but compared the prices and she (thank God) decided to put it off because she can get the real thing for cheap

High: Dress clothes. I don't need Gucci everything, but looking sharply dressed is important to me. I've done the Jos A Bank thing and had all my suits fall apart for the last time.
Low: Household items. For the most part, if I don't already have it then I don't need it.
