I hate the Nasba For this 3 month score release waiting period. I understand why they did it but it still sucks. On top of that I've got to wait until next week as I sat for BEC.

I'll have to disagree here. The online degree fails to develop a network which is a big piece of the MBA value.

Online, working professional, executive, and full time can each make sense in the right circumstances but there are trade offs for each.

I was always told that an Accountant without their CPA was an overpaid bookkeeper.

Eh, I know plenty of highly capable accountants that don't have it and know several CPAs who I wouldn't trust to balance a checkbook.

That said, if OP is planning on working in accounting/finance, they should go ahead and get the CPA. It will open a lot of doors.

This is so true. I've seen a CPA with two years of firm experience that couldn't complete a simple compilation if every number wasn't perfectly in place. Blew my mind.

OP, if you're in a place in life where you can commit the time to take and pass the exam, you'd be a fool not to.

It's a bitch, but I got the official passing grade on my second one today. I'll find out Sept 22nd if October 7th will be my last exam.

That was just told to me not what I thought. My aunt has an associates degree and she's better at keeping the financial side of a company in order than a lot of CPA's I've met. My boss told me one time that someone who was a CPA asked her how long land is usually depreciated. My point was that a CPA certification will provide the OP with a higher ceiling and will open more doors.

I almost added that as the biggest downside of the online option

Same - last one (hopefully) scheduled for the end of October. Wife and I just had a baby a month ago, which has added a new wrinkle to studying in the evening after work.

I just went through that and studying definitely got a little more challenging.

My original plan was to be done right before the baby, but I ended up getting a 74 on REG and had my AUD credit lapse. I ended up having to study/retake both REG and AUD. I woke up this morning to a passing score on REG and now I wait until September for my AUD score, which I just took over the weekend. I'm looking forward to finally being done with this exam.

Get it, even if you don't plan on doing the typical CPA work. I work for a small community bank, and our CEO and CFO are both CPAs.

Going forward, it will be almost impossible to move up the accounting/finance ladder without a CPA.

You will see some older CFOs and high level financial executives without one, but their replacements will

I believe he was referring to how an online MBA is looked at from others, not necessarily the pros/cons of online vs in person.

Yep, but I think both their points were valid. There is no difference on the resume from a brick and mortar on the resume even when done online. The networking aspect is the pro for in class studies. Its almost an immediate pass for me for online u universities when reviewing resumes unless their work experience is exactly what I'm looking for.
