A month is too excessive IMO, but I'm thinking I am going to do this on a weekly basis.

Family of 6 with a stay at home mom and a separate freezer it made sense.

Fiancé, myself, and our two year old. We go to the grocery around once a week usually spending about 125-150 a trip. Try to buy almost nothing frozen, a ton of meat. I grill at least three times a week to cut down on dirtying pots and pans.
Also usually have our go tos that I know are cheap and will feed all of us. For example, check out the racks of ribs. You would think those are expensive, but last week I found a full rack for about 8.50 which fed all of us plus I ate it for lunch the next day. A pack of 6-8 chicken legs is like 4-5$ and that can easily fill us all up.

You don't have to make a full on calendar and all this, it just takes a little thought and effort at the store.

COUPONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got a deal on canned goods a while back for 20 cents a can. Got around 200 cans to last me the next 1.5 years. They don't expire til 2015.

Don't pay for toothpaste, deodorant, soap... EVER.

I get razors free and don't EVER pay more than 25 cents per papertowel roll and 10 cents per toilet paper roll. Learn how to do it and youll save TONS

Also, we eat a lot of wild game. My parents are big hunters so I have a shitload of deermeat every year. We make out own sausage and ground meat so I NEVER buy any of that.

I spend about $40 per person per week including household and personal care products. I've used amazon prime this year to order paper products and other things if they are cheaper than the store. Cuts down on shopping trips and impulse buys.

I would hate to be married to your wife. A fricking dinner schedule a month in advance?

I was thinking the exact opposite.

I was salivating at such an awesome calendar. The closest my last gf got to something like that was a To Do list that never shrunk.

Drove me CRAZY!

First, what is a reasonable weekly grocery budget? I know food costs are skyrocketing but wife does zero to help. If its pre packaged or sliced she's buying it. Don't even know what a reasonable budget should be with her dumb purchases.

Give me some tips. I'd gladly go myself but this is her responsibility. Im not willing to cave yet. She doesn't work and should be better than me at it.

No offense, but WTF does she do all day if yal don't have kids? Why isn't she working? She in school?

We have 3 kids. Wife was a liberal arts major. Kids that have to be places because they aren't allowed to be couch potatoes. Not worth it for her to work. She volunteers a lot with charity and school stuff too. We make sure to live within just my means. We'd do that even if she did work. She"ll go back eventually to pad retirement. Don't give up much of anything for her to be home. Hold on to vehicles longer than most people but take care of them is about it Take a couple of vacations a year. Eat out reasonably.

Ah, I interpreted this as yal not having kids. I hope my wife doesn't work once I got some munchkins.

then you can freeze everything in portions according to what the recipe calls for.

This is what I do. when sometning is on sale, I buy in bulk, then take it home and repackage into single meal sizes - family meal sizes not individual.

Look at buying a vacume sealer to help prolong the freezer life. Mine has paid for itself easliy

I do all the shopping and my average cost is $200 a week. But that's not just food. Includes stuff like detergent, kleenex, clorox, etc.

I shop every day so the average bill is $30. The last time my wife went shopping was 10 years ago. I sent her with the same list I would have taken. She came back with $90 worth of stuff. She added 7 bottles of assorted beauty products and 3 plush toys for the dogs.

This. Buy your meat at Sam's. It's fresh and when you buy in bulk, take it home and Vac Seal it for the freezer. I save around $100 a month just doing this, and always know I'm getting good meat. We spend about $400 a month for groceries for Me, Wife, and 2 kids. Get your can goods and perishables from Wal-Mart once a month, and produce from your local grocery store once a week.

ETA: Buy the industrial Vac Sealer bags off Amazon you get (100) 12" x 8" for around $$30 and don't have to deal with cutting and sealing the free ends (like with the rolls) at a lesser price. The material is also sturdier and can even handle things like shrimp with those pesky horns/barbs.
