A fricking dinner schedule a month in advance?

I know. It's such a pain in the dick to look at my phone, see what I'm having for dinner, help budget for groceries, see when my wife will be off, and know whether or not I have to cook in advance.

2 adults and a 2yr old

Spend ~650 a month at walmart.

But that's groceries, paper goods, cleaning stuff, and diapers.

My schedule is flexible so i buy it all. If she went to the store it would easily jump 50 bucks a week.

Mine does too. We like it better. Makes it way easier to shop, keeps us from going out to eat too much, and it takes away the nightly discussion of "what are we going to make for dinner?"

There are two of us and we spend about $350/month. We eat very well.

Update: I planed a menu for a month and im buying all groceries for month. Got the meat, most to freeze, and all I could get in bulk that won't spoil at SAMs-$245. Went to wall world and got all the canned goods condements eggs milk bread etc $85. Pretty set for a month, just will be paper product, a little produce, bread, milk runs. Saving every receipt and buying everything myself this month. We are a family of 5. Kids all young but out of diapers. 2 bring thier lunch everyday.

I shop but can't tell you what we spend off hand. I can tell you that meals are planned around the Sale items in the ads on Wednesday. I do a lot of buy 1 get 1 free IF its something that we use AND if I know it's a good deal (I'm aware of prices).

I am not store or brand loyal and we freeze leftovers for quick meals on game or dancing nights per the kids schedules.

I'm pretty good with a list ... If I ask hubs to bring home milk by chance there's a 100% chance he'll come home with cookies too.

I'm sure that works out great for some people but I couldn't do it, I cook what I'm craving that day and usually make that decision around 3 PM. Pass through grocery store on the way home and pick up what I need. Organization isn't my style

We used to do that. We tracked our spending for a few months and realized we were overspending. We roughly slashed it in 1/2.

We do this too and I probably spend $1000/month between Calandros, Whole Foods, Albertson's and Maxwells. That's not to mention eating out. shite my food budget needs help.

The unit price discount at SAMs seams substantial, especially meat. Their meat is very doable if you can use it/ store it. Can't wait till we get a Costco. I'm sold on the planning by the month deal after fist grocery trip. Trick is the discipline to make sure you use it before such volume goes bad.

If you know your menu, like we do, then you can freeze everything in portions according to what the recipe calls for.

I have found that the foundation for successful food budgeting is a 7 day meal plan. Make the plan, do a list and then stick to it when you shop. Don't go the the grocery store when you are hungry.

Shop your meal plans week to week based on the ads. Avoid pre packaged and don't buy junk. If you are not feeding 6 plus people. don't buy the 10 cans of green beans because they are on sale. Some of them end up in the back of the pantry and forgotten.Same with freezer and food sales.

Eating well and as cheaply as possible requires a lot of time and effort.

This is what we do. We make a meal list for every day of the week. Then she'll get something that she can make in bulk for me to take to work for lunch every day.

Inevitably it changed but it was a good tool to figure out what was needed for shopping trips as it wasn't always the same person going to the store.

A month is too excessive IMO, but I'm thinking I am going to do this on a weekly basis.

Going shopping without a planned menu encourages impulse buys and a higher incidence of purchasing waste from unused ingredients going bad.
