Agreed. That's a pretty sizable reduction. I pass their new HQ every day going to work. They just moved into that spot not too long ago too.

It amazes me how a company's management can believe for years their company is properly staffed only to conclude suddenly they only need 3 out of 5 employees to properly run the company and serve their customers.

How does that happen??

It especially sucks when you are the one having to tell the person/people that they are getting laid off.

My company employed about 110 people at Thanksgiving and our current roster shows approximately 40.

It ain't a good feeling, that's for sure.

Supposedly they are lining the company up to run 2-3 rigs instead of the 13-15 rigs previously. They are not alone here as many of these companies are overstaffed with the price declines and lower activity levels. This either indicates they are in more trouble than people realize or that they foresee natural gas prices staying very low for much longer since they are predominately a gas producer.

Amen. I try to work hard and keep my head down. I'm very fortunate. I got laid off once, and took a job 9 weeks later for about a 40% pay cut, but I couldn't stay unemployed.
Been with this same employer now for 13 years.

If you lose a lot of accounts then the reduction in customers could directly effect the lower FTE requirement.

The reality is that organizations get fat when things are good.

*affect

Of course I understand that principle. But we're not talking here about management seeing customers dwindle so they cut a few employees here and a few more later when more customers disappear.

We're talking about 2 out of every 5 employees going away all at once. Was management not aware over the past year that customers were not there anymore?

I typically avoid affect/effect altogether

People don't like to make hard decisions and firing people is the hardest (or should be) decision management has to make.

If they can kick the can down the road while still meeting numbers, then I think they are likely to do it.

I guess that's the case. It just seems brutal to have to let that many people go all at once. Not only brutal to the ones let go but also to the ones who stay. It's got to feel like corporate Armageddon just hit the company.

It's gotta be difficult on a practical standpoint as well.

When you fire one person, it won't be overly difficult to figure out what that person was doing, and spread it out or assign the work to someone else.

When you just hatchet out 40%, it would seem to me that a lot of stuff is going to go to shite while those left try to figure out what those people were doing.

I'd venture to say it probably sucks a little worse to be one of those laid off.

They've taken the rig count to zero in the Fayetteville. From what I am hearing these guys are in major trouble. Terrible timing to buy the 5+ billion in Marcellus assets from Chesapeake last year.

I hate that for them, fortunately my company (GC) is booming. We have grown by 20% since this past summer.
