Sorry if Germans, I just found out about this yesterday.

I obviously don't follow stocks, but damn this was a huge buying opportunity.

Check out the high and low for the year.

They had a ch 11 bankruptcy and restructuring. The high and low is misconceiving bc it was essentially a reverse split of shares.

Look at the chart on Yahoo. Google's charts are horrible with stuff like this.

So, how did this work?

Say you had 1000 shares pre-chapter 11, how many after?

You lost 40% of what you had before the split. They raped everyone

From an article about the bankruptcy.
quote:

However, its shareholders will see their stakes heavily diluted. “Holders of Seadrill common stock will receive approximately 2% of the post-restructured equity,” Seadrill said in a statement published late on Tuesday.
So, I guess $10k worth of stock was worth $200 after.

Damn. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

False. The equity owners bore the majority of risk and return potential. 40% is actually incredibly good compared to most Ch. 11 filing.

The stock should have been priced for a Ch. 11 bankruptcy. That 40% loss is a reflection of worse than expected outcome
