Roth reallocation VOO/SPCX

I am strongly considering reallocating 60k of VOO to SPACX within my Roth. With the current pullback this seems like a golden opportunity…especially if SPACX gets to 100 or lower. Thoughts?

It’s all about risk/reward and your overall portfolio. Only you can make that call.
That being said. . . Do it

I would not make a single investment more than 5-10% of your retirement portfolio

Nowhere near enough info for us to decide if this is good for you or not

based on little info you supplied. f no. VOO and QQQ have made me a ton of gains. why would I sell? same goes for you.
you make a NEW contribution to buy shares of spacex OR you SHOULD have dry powder in a MMF like i do on the sidelines waiting to be thrown at an opportunity within the brokerage.
just like if we get a crash now i will buy even more VOO and QQQ.
unless you are old and retired and then want to sell to go from growth to dividends why sell now and lose your cost basis? but obviously that is not what you are thinking about if you want to invest in a speculative stock.

Catching it at/near the floor seems like the opportunity of a lifetime that might justify wiping out the gains of VOO in my opinion. This is a high conviction holding in my view and once it bounces off the bottom it very well could be off to the races next year when revenue starts to explode.
I am 45 and plan on working another 10-15 years…would likely buy back in to an index like VTI or even an REIT like Realty income within the Roth.

Yes. Concentration in one stock can be a windfall buts it’s also a great way to lose your arse.

It depends on your age, portfolio size and the overall concentration of your portfolio. If VOO is 60% of your portfolio and your portfolio is $2 million +? Probably fine. Your portfolio $250k? Nope.
ETA I’d be really careful with REITs

quote:Because there is no cost basis to consider in a Roth. Roth is often best place for a little speculative high potential growth instead of taxable brokerage as you are suggesting.
why sell now and lose your cost basis?
Side note, this is just a reallocation not a "Roth conversion."

do what?
i am looking at the COST BASIS of VOO in my ROTH right now.
i agree with that. i do the same

Cost basis exists in a Roth, but it’s meaningless wrt taxes.

Precisely why I worded it as "no cost basis to consider." The cost basis is irrelevant in Roth. No one cares.

Only you can make that decision. I also believe it's the opportunity of a lifetime.

I would do it. Personal rule is to never bet against Musk. He doesn't chill on a superyacht while the money rolls in, he constantly moves to expand and push envelopes. He's made many people rich and will continue to do so.

Sounds like you already made your mind up. I'm personally 100% in VOO in my Roth IRA. Not changing that until I croak.
