I have half a million in Iraqi dinar that doesn't look like it's going up anytime soon. It's worth a few hundred US last time I checked. If it came time for me to retire and I wasn't where I need to be in US dollars, would converting the rest of my money to dinar and moving to Iraq be doable?

This would be in about 20 years so I'm not hugely concerned with war. My main question is how far would something like $100 million in Iraqi dinar go? I know it wouldn't be like having $100 million US but would it be close to $1 million?

Is the average guy walking around Baghdad with a million in his pocket? Is there any way to find out how much things cost?

You couldn't pay me $100 million to live in that shithole.

I'd rather eat a bullet.

I'm not seriously considering doing it, I was just wondering how far my money would go if I did. Kind of a worst case scenario option. It would be an adventure for sure.

I've got to give it to you, that's some outside-the-box retirement thinking.

You could maybe combine data from countries where the dollar is the strongest.

With the countries where the cost of living is the lowest (sort:

You may find that Brazil may be a better option.

It really would be an adventure, safety probably depends on your skin complexion lol. I personally would not do it.... it’s not like Iraq even has safe beach resort cities like some other Arab/middle eastern nations.

I think I would definitely like the women more but I've already got all this dinar. It just seems like an extra step.

Cost of Living in Iraq

Big Mac meal is 9,500 dinar.

Rent is around 350,000 dinar a month.

So no.

That's a lot of dinar. I suggest never buying toilet paper or paper towels and using the dinar to wipe your arse and any other spills. The savings created by not having to buy toilet paper should put you in a good spot with retirement funds anywhere you choose to live.

I hear you.
While they’ve had the occasional dust-up in the recent past, historically it’s a very calm and stable region.

I really only expect that place to get worse as the Saudis and Iranians go at each other more. The U.S. is largely washing its hands of them and who else is capable of stepping in and holding order?

The Turks? France/the U.K.? I wouldn’t want to be counting on anything good coming out of there in the coming years.
