re: Retailers in trouble or WMT and AMZN leaving them in the dust?

Costco does not do it for me, but it is probably the lack of them for the population size of North Texas. Weekend shopping there is just miserable compared to going to Sam's Club which has more stores. Just too many people and Sam's has them blown away in the ability to check out quicker.
The new CEO is cracking down and trying to push things on the consumer. Now you're badgered to scan your card when you enter and have to listen to the sales pitch to upgrade your membership or get a credit card when you check out.

LOL
I guess we should be chicken littles and sky scream non stop about how horrible everything is.
There are a lot of people on several boards who have been wishcasting for horrible economic news and cheering it on for three years now.
It blows my mind.

We have both, but go to sams most of the time. We find the prices are overall a bit better and scan and go makes me very happy. I do like costco, but there is never a good time to go. I find costco clothing is better priced, but not much in the food area except some Kirkland items

They economy is great, let us just go with that. All the "statistics" say it, so why should we question it?
___________
Questioning it is fine. But don't share misinformation when you do it. This is not the Rant.
The measurements used to gauge the economy are math. That doesn't mean everything is roses. High prices are putting a strain on many. Consumer debt is a growing concern. It is entirely possible that we are headed for a downturn. But current year numbers for the economy are in good ranges.

Everyone likes the Walmart price, they hate the experience. Win win for both sides.
Walmart now gets my $1000 monthly grocery expense because I can use my phone to chose exactly what I want and it shows up on my doorstep 2 hours later. That’s how you win in this market.

WMT is just a well run company does a good job with execution on just about everything. They've nailed online ordering and home delivery.

CATO just had a turrible earnings report and suspended its dividend. No bueno.

I feel it keeps us from overspending as well. No walking by and adding something not planned.
Posted on 11/23/24 at 11:43 am to Billy Blanks
Exactly!
It’s a case study in innovation winning yet again. They wanted to become the Amazon of groceries before Amazon figured it out

And I imagine they are getting customers who would never attempt enter the store as well previously.

I have Walmart plus, and the grocery delivery in lafayette is terrible. The items that actually showed up were damaged a lot of times. The cold products weren't cold. Missing items all the time that were charged for. Had a package of Baby Wipes delivered with red sauce all over them. Can't believe they actually left that on the porch.
That's not really on Walmart but the delivery drivers here just suck. I recently had Albertson's delivery and that driver sucked too.

reminder that Black Friday, cyber Monday and the overall holiday shopping spree approaches. SHOP, GLBE, AMZN, WMT, etc etc all can jump once the results are in. Consumer sentiment is high high at the moment
even if you aren’t long there’s opportunity for short term action
ETSY is one that has been left for dead. Plenty of room if it catches fire

What is it that sounds promising for this company?
And I agree, I think consumers are going to spend like crazy this holiday season.

nothing really other than it supported higher prices before and revenues have only gone up since then. Just an example of a consumer stock that previously traded as a tech stock

Thanks. I said what the hell and just bought $1500 worth.

brave man LOL
however…your question did prompt me to do some surface research. MF has a couple recent articles on ETSY. Thesis is that it is flush with cash, has high retention and it’s customers are generally high income, it suffered from being dropped from the index, it makes tons of profit (can easily start buybacks), has not diluted shareholders and has sufficient revenue growth to support a higher share price.
I owned it for years. ETSY was at one time an incubator for software engineers and developers who went on to start other companies
I’ll be watching. It’s testing a level right now
