My wife and I recently came into a significant amount of money - well into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. We'd like to put the money into a Joint Brokerage Account at Schwab. What products do you recommend? We don't anticipate needing access to the money for some time. Any other advice?

instead of giving you advice, how about you give me advice on stumbling onto significant amount of money. I’d like this to happen to me one time.

yeah give us a step by step on this OP.

In the Schwab account you can buy anything that is publicly traded. You’ll need to narrow down your wants/needs/risk tolerance

If you are having to ask this, I would either go with a top growth mutual fund with a history of great returns over many years, or hire a professional.

But......I know if I came into a lot....the majority would go into these 4 stocks:

DASH
RKLB
PRYMY
SPCX

Two of these are in the same industry (RKLB and SPCX), and all four hugely involved in the AI movement.

I'd consider not doing a joint account. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm assuming 1 of you was given this money as inheritance? Personally I'd put it in that persons' name.

1. VTI and/or VOO
2. VXUS
3. Some type of very safe security (treasuries)

If you dont already have Schwab accounts, I'd go with Fidelity. I have both and I think the Fidelity platform functions WAY better. Both have tons of no-fee fund options with low or zero expense ratios. A global market index fund is the simple choice to set it and forget it.

Are you maxing ,Roth IRAs? If eligible I'd probably start there. Then max your other tax advantaged retirement accounts (401k, 4013b etc). IPay off and high interest debts first.

Stick to low expense ratio index funds.

Is.this long term money or planning to spend it next few years?

With the current environment, don't put it all in the msrket...diversify into some precious metals.

How old are you?

I'd go with index growth funds and for fun, get some div funds like jepq/qqqi and route all dividends to those same funds. Do that and you can skip paying Schwab's advisors 1% or whatever you manage to negotiate and come out better.

if it's $300k, I'd break it into 3 selections and def put $100k into SCHG. the other 2 funds put it into something u know like Apple, KO (coke), philip morris PM, XOM (exxon) slow & steady wins the race

Before buying dividend funds make sure you understand the tax implications in a taxable brokerage.

This dude is apparently new to investing and many of you are suggesting picking individual stocks, that's terrible advice for a newbie!

1/2 VOO and 1/2 in VGT. Let it grow while you don’t need it.
