Biggest is our current house. Mostly because it was a foreclosure that needed work, we bought it just before the financial crisis in 2004, and my wife was in banking at the time and saw a pretty substantial cut in pay. So most of the work we had planned to do to it got deferred. What started out as a 5 year "flip" house has turned into a now 15 year residence, and we'll probably stick it out until the youngest graduates high school. We have a lot of equity in it and it's in a highly desired subdivision, so it wasn't a horrible financial decision, just not the house I would have chosen to live in this long.

Oh well, live and learn I guess.

I regret most of the alcohol I purchased between the ages of 18 and 25.

I regret a lot of my expensive alcohol purchases recently... $250 bottle of opus one, 300 bottle of RIP van winkle, most 25 dollar bottles of craft beer... etc. They just aren't worth it.

I regret every cent I ever spent on cigarettes. I quit long ago but still...

I regret that new car I bought when I was 27. Drove it off the lot and it depreciated 4000 instantly. Got flipped upside down and sold it still owing money...

Regret buying all in with DODGE coin... holding it until I ended up selling and losing 75% of what I put in.

I regret gambling my paychecks away trying to double up to pay off loans...

shite.. I'm terrible with money....

By the way, I bought LVVV stock if anyone can spot the pattern....

Leased a car I shouldn’t have.

Opened my third business when I was 25. Spent a few years paying that one off.

I did plenty of times the next morning, but many of those times and the friends and experiences I gained from them are worth 10 fold what I paid for them.

The money saved from not boozing would have went to traveling more, where I would have just boozed there. So really, the booze spending wasn't the problem.

Though spending about 500 euro in a week in Greece was probably not my best use of funds. Thankfully the next two weeks there I spent less than that but entirely still too much.

My first house. It was a brand new development, no character whatsoever, houses on top of each other. Sold it 4 years later for 500 more than i paid and lost about 5k in fees.

My first house was a cookie cutter that we only planned on living in 6-7 years. We decided to buy vs rent because real estate only goes up right? This was in 2006-2007 at the height of the market. Lesson learned

My best friend and I invested $8k each into an online casino/poker room in 2007 when it was all the rage after he spent weeks trying to talk me into it. Turns out, takes a LOT more than that to be successful, and we went under very quickly.

Terribly stupid idea, and my gut was right. But it taught me a great lesson about jumping into business half-heartedly or when you haven’t done all the research. It’s one of my biggest frustrations ever but also turned out to be a blessing in teaching me to trust my instinct and be more conservative with my hard-earned money.

Crypto. I don’t want to discuss how down I am. I’ll just pretend it never happened and see what happens in the next 30 years.

MNKD but it made very wary of pharmaceutical stocks because even if the drug is effective and it fills a niche, everything else about the company can be in the shitter.

Bought 1,000 rounds of over priced ammo when every one was afraid that guns were about to be banned a few years ago.

Crypto

Wasted a lot of money by staying to many years living in an apartment in downtown while continuing to renew 6 month leases.

Signed a 2 year contract for a job and received a nice sign on bonus. Decided I wanted to go back to school and was accepted into grad school that started in August. So I quit and went back to school. I worked 1 year and 10 months at my old job and you guessed it.....they made me pay back the full amount of the sign on bonus.
