We will see a rate increase but not sure if it will go into the 4s if you have strong credit. If you are building, you should only have to pay interest only while in construction and then lock 30-45 days out. Time is now to move forward with purchases or refinances because rates will be higher by next year. And the cost of waiting can be detrimental

Friendly bump!

Any of our local mortgage brokers on here care to chime in? I don’t think anyone got it quite right

If they are 6% now after todays news—one has to think we may get down to mid 4s-5s again if things progress.

Home prices are also dipping

You said 3.75.

That is nowhere near 6.0.

The guy with the chart was clearly hinting at inflation going up was going to equal high interest rates so I would say he got it right

Rates are not going to come down anytime soon, at least of any measurable and significant amount.

Fed's fund rate is 4%, inflation is 8.5 ish, but not really, we all know it is higher than that. You should expect to see the fed push higher until the FFR is close to the current interest rate which is going to drive mortgage rates way up further.

The good news, is that will drive home prices WAY DOWN from today.

If you really get triggered by CPI recalculations don't look on the BLS website

The interest rate is of key importance for me because I lock in all my prices at the time construction begins, big variable for me is interest

He mentioned October ‘22 in the OP. Any updates from JumpingTheShark?

Sorry for the late reply, but I’d like to drop in and say that rates can vary based on various factors, so it's a good idea to stay updated and continue monitoring the market as your house-building plans progress. It's great to see that you're taking your mortgage planning seriously and seeking reliable information.

So home values will plummet to 80k?

I am not in the financial industry but home prices have got to come down in order for our economy to function normally.

I am loving the equity I have in my home but I have young adult children who have a serious struggle ahead when they look at the current home prices (as a % of their take home pay).

No one (in the media) wants to talk about just how sky home prices are right now.

Something's gotta give sooner or later. It's not sustainable for the first time home buyers.

Are you including rental prices in this statement?
