If she's makes the bread and wants to go, you should go. Dallas has a lot to offer and the cost of living is probably worth 10% more.

Do you have a job lined up in the area? Are you packing kids up there? Do you have any family or friends up there to make the transition easier?

Not sure what you're wanting to hear. Market IN Dallas is pretty hot/high similar to New Orleans, but tons safer.

Depends on what really moves your needle, but I moved from Nola to Dallas and it was a great move for me. There are TONS of Louisiana/LSU people over here.

North Dallas is a great place to live and raise a family. Housing is starting to get expensive, but schools are great, no crime, plenty of sports and lakes to keep you busy. Only drawback is 7 hours by car or $300 plane ticket to see the tigers play on Saturday night.

What do you want to know about Dallas? It's a terrific city.

We had the option to move to Dallas or Austin in the same situation. My wife chose the Austin job.

I had to find new work. If you're worried about finding work, the Austin job market dwarfs New Orleans by a lot. Dallas is even better.

It will floor you how silly it all is.

i was looking for entry-level jobs in both areas until very recently. the difference is incredible.

How old are you and your wife? Getting out of New Orleans in your 20s is the best career move you could possibly make.

My wife and I moved to Dallas a year ago and the only regret is that we didn't make the move earlier. We absolutely love it and are never bored.

Give it a shot, New Orleans will always be there, and it's a $200 round trip on Southwest if you ever get homesick.

I moved to the DFW area after graduating with my masters. Got a job offer at a firm in Plano right away and it is just amazing how much that area is growing. I live in Frisco and drive less than ten minutes to work and the area has everything you could possibly desire within 15 minutes of you. The amount of development in that area is nuts with about 20 mid and high rises going up and large developments such as Toyota's new North American headquarters nearing completion. Job opportunities abound, but this growth has come with inflating house prices that have doubled over the past ten years. In my field, businesses are desperate to find qualified employees and that is causing wages to increase. Plano has been voted one of the best places to live in the US and I would agree, so take a look at that area.

I left New Orleans a long time ago and don't regret it at all. It is always a plane ride away.

I live in Rockwall, 20 miles east of downtown. Best schools in the area. Small town feel. Great local restaurants. Everything you need within a 25 minute drive.

The growth here is crazy. I'm currently doing work at the Toyota headquarters, two Amazon distribution centers, four hospitals, two food processing plants, the Irving Music Factory.

Crazy amount of things happening here.

Easy choice--live in Dallas. Visit south Louisiana three or four times a year. It will make you appreciate both.

Left Louisiana for North Texas 27 years ago and have never wavered about the decision. Granted, am about two hours north, northwest of DFW but the quality of life is way beyond anything Louisiana has to offer. Is a great State which has held to her past while looking forward. Our three children were born in Louisiana but consider themselves Texans, was very easy to assimilate.

For me it really depends on your situation. Is a 30k bump a huge raise in your family's total income? My wife is about to graduate and could probably land a job making 30k more in Dallas over New Orleans, but that's not even something we're considering. We're not deadset on staying in New Orleans, as it definitely has drawbacks, but we're not ready to jump to a cookie-cutter metropolis like DFW either. (No offense to those who live there)

This is not accurate at all. I love New Orleans just as much as the next Louisianaian, but Dallas is leaps and bounds a better city. The opportunity is exponentially better and it's way safer with equitable entertainment options. No other city can compete with the culture and special events of New Orleans, but the cons are glaring in NOLA.

If you are in any kind of industry Dallas is a way better option.
