Her first choice is actually the Lexus,
Under 25k miles? Do it!
25k to 40k miles? Think hard about it.
40k+ miles? Maybe not...
We are on our 4th Lexus. Best cars we've ever owned but we've always bought new ones.

Come on man, who's it really for?
The maintenance cost (you better come prepared for pay to play), the insurance cost, the fender bender costs(there will be one in a Macan known for blindspots and being oversized for a 16yo), The anything and everything will go wrong cost for a 16yo isn't worth it IMO.
Just my opinion.

Get a new Honda or Toyota. Should be the last car you have to buy them.

My kids will not be driving luxury vehicles for a first car. Looking back, starting with a used Ford Explorer was a great first vehicle.

Probably not if I was Elon. Definitely not with 35k. You could get the kid a new Honda Accord that will last 10 years and the insurance will only somewhat rape you.
I'd probably buy her a 10k vehicle and see what kind of driver she is going to be and let the 25k bake until college.

Your 26 year old probably had to drive a Ford Pinto with her unfortunate timing.

Well, that went South.
Most of the Money Talk knows my story. Well invested already, hit GME at $8 and made a lot of money when it went to over $400. Just want my girls to enjoy it some while I am young.
I have both my girls first homes paid for. I've worked hard and made some good decisions that have outweighed the bad over the years.

If you have a high net worth then just ignore the MTB if it’s something you want to do for your daughter. However, a used Porsche is going to suck to maintain.
If safety matters then brands like Volvo enter the discussion.

That's the advice I'm looking for. I know nothing about Porsche.
Probably sticking with the Lexus.

Congrats man, really. That’s huge. They will appreciate that, hopefully when you tell them after they graduate college or have their life’s halfway set. Either way it’s awesome. Given that, I would steer clear of the Porsche. We’ve had a few Audis, A-4’s and Q-7’s and they been pretty quality. Putting the Q-7 in the shop Wednesday for the first time in 8 years for an a/c issue. I will say that the insurance is quite a bit higher so keep that in mind.

While I mostly believe you, I can’t find a post on the Money Talk prior to 2022 nor can I find one where you mentioned GME.
Fill us in.

If your budget is 35K don't put her in a luxury car. Get a quality Honda/Toyota at that price point.
Even if you can afford a luxury car, the optics of that being her first car is teaching a bad lesson. It will also be more expensive to fix the eventual bumps and dings that every first vehicle will be subject to.
But you probably already know this, you just want to "brag" to a bunch of strangers on the internet.

40K isn't even broken in on a Toyota/Lexus

to me this just teaches your children horrible optics at a young age. Put her in a new honda crv and call it a day.
Or a 10 year old Honda crv

Right under 5,000.
It was October of 2020, when the $600 stimulus checks were coming out, being discussed. Way before all the Wall Street Bets stuff hit in January.
A guy on Twitter that I followed posted a chart of GME exploding every time a new console was being released. Both the new XBox and PS5 were going to be a hot Christmas item, plus the stimulus checks, so I was sold on his thesis. It went from $8 to nearly $20 in three months. I decided to leave it in and then the meme stock stuff hit in January.
I carved off some at $100, $150, $225, etc. Keep in mind, I was a pretty savvy investor before hand, but this changed my life. Put me in the room with some really smart people.
I'm really into the AI trading stuff now with Composer. I think we're still really early and a big brokerage is going to buy them soon and quadruple the cost of entry though.

My oldest just got her first car. A hand-me-down from Grandpa. 2013 Ford Escape with 130k miles. $3k all in and liability only insurance.

That’s awesome.
I’d still probably put them in a used Honda or Toyota just because I think they will wreck it and because the replacement parts are relatively cheap compared to luxury brands. Though nothing is really cheap anymore.
I would probably also go for something decent size so that they get crushed on the interstate. They have a chance.
Also, if you give your kid a Porsche for their first car where they have the same drive that you do to succeed?

NFW am i putting my youngest in anything that costs that much nor does she deserve it. I do enough for her travel ball wise and help future college wise and other shite. She will get what i let her use. maybe my old truck. maybe not. She will learn value and hard work(which she does for sports and school)and earn it. I am not gifting any expensive vehicle to a damn teen.
I have a 20 yo daughter and a 15yo son. I get the sentiment, but my ONLY concern is vehicle safety. While our parents took great pleasure in graciously providing us with the clunkiest of clunkers, it's a different world than when we grew up driving with all of the idiot drivers out there.
My rule is this: I'll get them a safe, reliable car that is within budget. Child has to 1) make a certain GPA 2) Maintain a certain level of athletic commitment 3) will have to have a summer job to "help" pay for vehicle insurance and gas and 4) Not be a typical d-bag teenage punk.
