zacktiger and baroqen, you guys nailed it. The downvotes are comical.
This group was started to give us LSUS MBA students a place to network and share info. There's really no need for the option to up or downvote posts. People are just bored. I'm sure this post will get some downvotes. :)

Thank you all so much for your summaries and comments.
We all come into these programs at a much different stage in life than when we entered undergrad. Many of us have families, jobs that require travel, military obligations, disabilities...it goes on and on.
Being able to ask questions about time required for a course in order to balance out that other significant part of your day is very helpful.
Best of luck and continued success to each and every one of you.

Has anyone taken or taking mkt 701 with khan? I'm currently taking him now & it's my last class of the program but I took my first test with him & didn't get the result I wanted. I read & take excellent notes on chapters & lectures. Any other suggestions???

Hi Shay! There are a bunch of reviews of each course and professor in this message board -- the easiest way to search that I've found is to enter the following search string into Google:
Site:tigerdroppings.com/rant/money/lsus-online-mba-reviews/50638829 "Khan" AND "MKT"
Replace my variables above with your own and voila!

What worked well for me was to read the chapters early in the week along with watching the lectures. I would spend the balance of the week working on any writing assignments. When the test was about two days out I would go through the chapters and lectures again, this time taking notes and trying to understand the concepts rather than just the definitions. I would also try to relate these concepts to current events. His tests are difficult but as you get used to his style and what he expects you to understand they get much easier.

Shay,
The problem with Khan isn’t so much the material – it’s that his interpretation of the material on tests differs from the objective facts he actually teaches in his lectures and the textbook. I truly believe that Khan offers a great class where you can learn a TON about marketing if you spend the time necessary. He does a great job of relating current events and different companies to the material. Now turning that knowledge into a good grade? That’s the tough one.
The issue isn’t the material though, it’s his questions on the test. From my experience, he has roughly 60-70% of the questions that are clear. What I mean by this, is that the question is clear, and there is a clear answer if you know the material. The problem occurs with the other 30-40% of the questions. It’s not so much that there are “multiple answers”, it’s that the question can be interpreted multiple ways. Being that he generally has five answer selections, three answers can easily be thrown out. Now, it’s up to you to determine how HE feels the question should be interpreted and select the correct answer.
Of course, he will never admit to this and continuously defend how it’s his students fault for misinterpreting the question during his exam reviews (especially the ones where only 20-30% of the class got the question right). However, when a C is the average grade, it’s time for the instructor to look at himself.

@tank hit the nail on the head, very solid assessment. For the tricky questions, you have to look at the 2 answers that could potentially be right - re read the question and try to determine what he’s really trying to ask and apply that thought process when you answer. Your choice won’t always be right (as sometimes 80% miss it) but you can’t just think of it like a simple conceptual straightforward question, you have to try to think of all the different angles he may be coming from.

I ended up with a 10/12 this week. I feel like there were a couple of questions again that were not anywhere in the readings or lectures he gave. I took verbatim notes from his lectures (had to watch them several times) and these questions were no where in there. I even checked after I completed the test and could not find them....very frustrating that he can't just test on material that he covers rather than trying to trip you up.

I wouldn't stress it. Do well on the papers and you'll be fine. I think I averaged 19/25 on the weekly exams and still passed with an A. He was doing 25 questions worth 1 pt each last semester.

Hey everyone! I currently taking 2 classes (Fin 701 w/Vines and ECON 705 w/Shaughnesy). After this term I will only have two classes left to complete in AP2. The classes I have left are ISDS 702 and MADM 760. For MADM 760, I am currently signed up with McLaughlin. However there are openings for Meeks. Does anyone have any recommendations of which one would be the better class to take? These are my last two classes and I'd prefer not to have group work.

Steer clear of 760 with Meeks if you are trying to avoid group work

Just my two cents but to me Dr. Meeks was the best professor in the entire program. The group work was fine and repesentative of what the real world is like. I'd actually encourage students to try to take at least one class from him.

Hi All,
Has anyone taken Fadi Fawaz for Econ 705?
If so, how is the course workload, especially if taken with another course?
What are the weekly assignments due? & how many tests are there? Are they open notes & proctored?
Thank you!

I agree. I enjoyed Meek’s 760 class!

Meeks is one of the best professors in the program. I'd take most complaints about him with a big grain of salt. Highly recommend his classes!

Hello, I took MADM 720 with Kimberly Williams and ISDS 730 with Mike Loughrin. Both are great classes and organized. Start the leadership portfolio project early for MADM 720. Complete as many sections as you can during the first two weeks of class when the course reading as not as heavy. Then, fill in the leadership questionnaire write ups section as you go. Mike Loughrin has short interesting readings and videos. Be mindful of the details for the weekly exams. The quizzes are straightforward. I was able to take and pass the Lean Certification exam an hour after I took the final exam for the class. There is group project which is a simulation. Very little information is given about it. Google the name of the simulation to find strategies to help you succeed in your role and for team strategies. You don’t have to win the game to pass the course. It does not impact your grade. You do receive credit for submitting your weekly individual and team reports. Our team took turns leading the team meetings. The leader wrote drafts of the team report, scheduled the meeting and conducted the meeting. During the meeting the team would discuss their section of the report and suggested revisions to the report. Meet with your team early during the week but make sure everyone has read the material and prepared drafts. Use google docs or a similar app to prepare the draft of the team report.

I took Kungu for MADM 701. I bought the book and read the chapter summaries and practice questions. It is the same material that Kimberly Williams uses for MADM 720.

Acct 701 with Huang was a good class. She explained most concepts very clearly in her notes. I wish she would’ve included transcripts with the videos because they were difficult to understand. I didn’t bother with the chapter readings unless I needed additional clarification. The homework problems were helpful in preparing for the test. Start the final project as soon as possible to avoid feeling overwhelmed by the directions. It is simple as soon as you start completing the sections. I had pare down some of the information that I had so it would not be too long.

Kendall, used chapters from different sources. The course notes were unorganized, repetitive, and contained mathematical errors. You have to check the class modules frequently during the week for corrections.
