Just saw this for myself...urk. (Am registered for Lin and Shaughnessy...now I may rethink taking both...)
For those of you who HAVE taken Lin in the previous (and anticipated) format, how hard is the material in and of itself? The exams? Would be curious to know your thoughts as to if doubling up might still be feasible based on exam, work material, etc. For example, in looking at the textbook (and yes, it's available to view online), are his test questions taken from the study questions at the end of each chapter? If so, that mike make the exams a bit more bearable in terms of studying and prepping...

From what I remember about ISDS 705 I read the chapters once then took the open book test. I didnt look at the ppt slides. I felt I would have passed even without using the open book. Probably with at least a B for each exam. I have 2 classes left and my experience with most classes is that focusing on the ppt slides is typically the way to go. Hopefully he provides some direction as to what to focus on. If not, I would say skim the chapters and read each ppt slide a few times. I think it was a lot of material.

RE: ISDS 705
This is a perfect example of the inconsistencies of this program. Program and class changes make it hard to pair classes logically. It looks like my pairing of Lin and Meeks is going to be much more difficult than I thought. So much for a little breathing room before diving into MKT 701 in the fall.

quote:I wouldn't call it an inconsistency. I'm sure the administration finally caught wind of how this course was being offered and decided to make a change. Most all of the courses have made adjustments since last Fall. This is what happens when a program starts to get more popular. Plus, it's a Master's level course. With that pairing, you will still be fine. Trust me.

I hope you are right. 4 classes to go... I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm glad I was able to take ISDS with Lin before the format changed. However, the exams were not difficult. It will just be a lot to read and memorize if he doesnt change the textbook. But the material is interesting and relatively easy to get through and comprehend. Best of luck to you all.

MADM 701 or MKT 701. Which one is easy, openbook.
I know both require lot of reading and exams. But I still want to compare them.

Neither are open-book.

Read through this thread to compare them

Thanks, believe me I did before asking this question. I got multiple reply.... and all are contradictory.
Let me give an example:
brentb71: With Williams(MADM) & James(MKT) as instructors, both are proctored weekly non open book/notes tests. Both have weekly writing assignments. MKT 701 also has 1 or 2 other weekly assignments, some of those being group projects. Material is easy but time demanding.
GSMBA16: They are both open book and open notes. No proctoring. You have to be on your "A" game to complete the test in the timed environment. I didn't take a lunch for 14 weeks straight when I took those courses. I also spent about 2 hours a night getting prepped for the exams. I learned a heck of a lot in the classes. I have actually implemented many of the option strategies we covered in my everyday trading life and have seen a significant amount of gains in my portfolios!

With ACCT 701, you should be fine to take two courses if you take Ambrosio, Fabio. According to this forum, he is the better option anyway.
My bigger concern is MKT 701. According to the forums, it's one of the two most time consuming courses along with MADM 701. I'm expecting that ACCT 701 won't be a walk in the park, even if i get Ambrosio but the comments on MKT 701 appear to be nearly universal regarding the workload.

Look at when each was posted. GSMBA's is likely more recent if I had to guess. I took MADM 701 with Knotts and it was not open book and if I had to guess, neither is MKT 701. I took it with Darrat so I can't comment on James. It's a Master's program so I wouldn't expect open book work, especially with how quickly the program is growing. Neither of the courses are "easy" by any means, so if that's what you're looking for, you may want to reconsider taking them right now and find something else.

Finished up MADM 701 with Kungu with a high A.
Definitely a pairable class.
He's a new professor and I believe this was his first session.
Straight forward structure, fair, and balanced.

In regard to ISDS 705, if Gibbs is avalaible I recommended him. The class isn’t difficult yet I learned quite a bit of information. It wasn’t open book but the quizzes are a small portion of your grade combined with some weekly excel projects which is where I really got my learning!
MKT 701 with James- test are Proctered Mom open book. The projects like many have stated are a bear, however I found the grading to be fair.
MADM 701- Kungu: personally found the material boring, closed notes and protected. That being said Kungu seems to care about the students and activievly avalaible
Any class with Meeks is awesome and he has his own videos put together to watch from. Group work is also involved
Vines: 4 test of 10 questions. Holds several weekly zoom sessions and willing to answer questions. Really understand his study guide
Hseigh- a tough class but I enjoyed it. The Matieral is his own word document of about 300 pages. Can’t tememeber but don’t think was proctored
ECON with Shaug: one of the better classes although for myself was not my strongpoint. Has videos, quizzes and test. Non proctored

he not new. but it was his first time teaching MADM 701

MADM 701 with Kungu: I'd like to add to Cottonseed's comments that it was a pleasant class, consistent grading (at least with my coach), and Kungu is very responsive and helpful to questions/concerns. Other than some of the chapters in the text book being hard reads, I enjoyed the class very much.

I also noticed that he is scheduled to teach one of the HR concentration classes soon. From what I've read about F. Williams, I'd take the class with Kungu without any hesitation.
For those new to the forum, please note that there are two professors who are Williams' - Felice and Kimberley. K. Williams usually teaches MADM 720, and she is a great prof.

I'll 3rd this. Kungu's class had its share of work but it was very fair. Biggest chore for me each week was getting through the 2 chapters of text reading, usually 70-80 pages, since I don't read at the speed of Spencer Reid.
