Appreciate the info on MKT 701 with Kahn. It sounds like the switch in case study from group to individual project may be a one-time thing? I'm not sure it really matters. I groan when I see group work on a syllabus but in practice it hasn't been that bad.
I am currently scheduled for AP2 with A. Darrat (not to be confused with M. Darrat). There's not much here about A. Darrat. Does anyone have something to add about his class? It would be much appreciated. There are still some openings in Kahn's class for AP2 and I'm thinking about switching -- though I'm hoping to get a little more info before doing so.

Congrats on making it this far and best of luck in your decision to take the next step!
Get yourself registered with the local Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Louisiana Economic Development (LED) or the equivalent if you are in another state. There's free and low-cost support available to guide you on matters from creating your LLC to marketing your product and tracking your performance. As you grow, seek out other forms of support: Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses and Capital One's "Get Down to Business" are two examples. Some universities will take on your product as a class project and develop a plan for you. Just a few examples. There's more out there.
Remember your business-owning peers also form round tables and other affinity groups and can be remarkably generous with their support. Seek it out. A good product alone is not enough for success. You need to get the mechanics of the business right and if you do it out the gate, you'll save yourself a lot of stress and money. Don't go it alone.
Much success to you in the New Year!

Based on what I've read here, there are no great options for MKT 701. For that reason, I saved it for the last class of the program. I figured that I'd have sufficient motivation to get through whatever is thrown at me at that point! I'm taking it with A. Darrat. Does anyone recall the name of the former textbook for this course? I wonder if getting a jump start on reading would help...

Marketing 701 with A. Darrat: Does anyone recall what book was used when books were used? I'd like to take a preemptive strike at some reading in hopes of easing the tension when the course starts.
Your summer home / beach condo: Dream or Disaster?
Posted by Unlockthedream on 12/5/18 at 7:10 am
My spouse and I are seriously considering purchasing a beach condo in Orange Beach, AL. The rationale is that we go there a few times a year anyway, are already real estate investors and can manage property, so why not branch out and invest there?
What's your experience with owning property outside of your hometown? If you bought it for your own recreation, do you use it? Did you get tired of it? Did it stop you from traveling elsewhere because it was easier/less expensive just to go to the property you own? Was it like the old boat joke: "Happiest day is when I bought it. Second happiest is when I sold it!"
That last one is biggie for me. While I think the Orange Beach area is lovely and I relax when there, there are many other places I want to bring my family. I don't want all of our travel budget going to that one location -- and truly we can rent more affordably than buying. The buying option has appeal only if it serves as a sound investment. My preliminary numbers suggest an 8% cap rate but depending on capital improvements & condo assessments, it may not cash flow in the early years of ownership. The final motivator is that the 20% down payment is sitting in a money market at 1.85%. I'd like that money to be working harder somewhere. If it's somewhere that I can also have fun, that could be a win/win.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Are you using Chrome as your browser for ACCT 701 assessments? When I've had similar technical issues in the past it was a result of using browsers that aren't fully compatible with Moodle.

@tigerlsus One page back on 308 someone mentions a text. I am also from a non-biz background and found that I needed to supplement Vines' notes with other sources in order to grasp the concepts. His notes contain acronyms that aren't defined, examples that skip some of the steps and things like that which take for granted a background knowledge that I didn't have.
I used supplemental videos, the best of which were "mbabulls#*t.com" (spell it out -- I just don't want TD to flag it for profanity here). They are on a website by the same name and also on You Tube. Some of the videos require subscription but there are enough of them available for free to get you through the course. The guy is a gifted teacher who breaks down the BS and explains the concepts in jargon-free language. This is now my go-to resource for quantitative classes.

Thanks, Socal. I slept on it and think I may just stay the course I already charted, which means MKT in the spring.
ACCT 701 syllabus and text are now posted on Moodle, BTW. Call me old school but I am so grateful there's an actual textbook for this course. When you think about the collaborative effort and thousands of hours of research, writing, peer review, editing and re-writing that go into creating a good text, there's no way an instructor-produced video or Word document can substitute, I don't care how much the instructor knows his stuff. I am 100% pro book!

Would you give up a spot in ACCT with Ambrosio in order to take MKT 701 with Albers instead of James? I only have time to take one class per session so must choose.
I hate to give up ACCT 701 this session -- I'm interested in the course and want to take it with Ambrosio -- but based on the discussions here I'm tempted to change up my intended course rotation, drop ACCT and take MKT 701 instead while there's a non-James option available (sounds like that's not always the case).
The problem is I'm dreading the MKT class and reasoned that I would save it to be my last class, at which time I'll be sufficiently motivated to complete it no matter how crazy the workload.
Would love to hear from anyone with experience in these courses, especially with Albers' course.
Thanks.

ACCT 701 with Ambrosio: Would someone who has taken this class tell me which textbook was previously used in the course? I'd like to do some end-of-summer reading from it before jumping in this fall. Thanks.

Regarding the honor society invitations, I'm inclined to skip them. Beyond undergrad they just seem like pointless resume fluff. If you're going to join one, I'd say stick with those recognized by the university for some legitimacy. The administration recently sent an email with the information below noting 3 recognized by the university: Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), founded in 1913, is a business honor society that is restricted to students who are earning degrees at AACSB accredited universities. Sigma Iota Epsilon (SIE) is a professional honor society, affiliated with the Academy of Management, that recognizes students for academic achievement in management and administration. Phi Kappa Phi, founded in 1897, is the nation’s oldest multidisciplinary honor society.

I had to change my schedule for personal reasons and just dropped ACCT 701 w/ Ambrosio for Spring AP 1. If you need the spot, it should be available now.

FIN 701 Module 1 is now available on Moodle for anyone who wants to get a jump start on reading/video review prior to start of Spring AP1. I plan to do so as soon as I complete the last ISDS 705 test this Friday. This is my first session with 2 courses so I'm grateful for the opportunity to get some work done during the break.

Yes, I'm taking both. My first pairing of the program and hopefully a wise one. I would love to get a jump start on reading during the break -- it would be great if we get access to the syllabi before then.

Both ACCT and FIN are ideal to pair with another class.
Brent, thanks and I hope that is the case. My one and only term of doubling up will be Spring AP1 with these two.

Perhaps the managers at ProctorU should enroll in classes at LSUS to learn how to run a more effective operation! Seriously, if the customer experience expressed here is representative of the whole, they shouldn't be too pleased with themselves. For their part, I think LSUS admin could evaluate the proctoring services and choose one across the program rather than engaging multiple vendors. As for the question of why proctoring is even needed for an open book test, this is speculation but I wonder if it has something to do with accreditation requirements, as in: "X number of courses must use proctoring."

ISDS 705 exam 1 -- Definitely allow 20 minutes for the Proctor U process prior to starting the exam. You will log into Proctor U and the proctor will guide you through the process, which includes logging into Moodle where the proctor enters a code and the exam begins through the Moodle platform.
I agree with Brent that the textbook is the key resource. I've been concerned about this exam for the past two weeks and based on the reading material, couldn't figure out why this course had a reputation for having a light workload. I don't have much background in the subject and the quantity of reading material was intense. Despite that, the exam was manageable. No ambiguous or double barrel questions. Pretty straightforward. Good luck!

RE ISDS 705, my understanding is that we can use multiple monitors but not multiple computers. As in, you can't take the test on your laptop and have the book open on your desktop computer. I found this a little confusing since it seems okay to have the book open on a tablet (so why not another computer?) Someone please correct me if I'm reading this wrong. I'll probably seek clarification from Dr. Lin before testing if there's any remaining confusion.
