quote:The problem is that Darrat isn't new, though the class is. He's got solid reviews on RateMyProfessor, so I was really looking forward to his course. Now HCAD 750 was a new instrcutor with a new class but it has similar problems. It was essentially copy/pasted from a different course and program with entirely different objectives from what was stated in the course description.
know it's a new course and a new professor, but LSUS has got to get these things figured out.
But yeah, LSUS needs to figure this out. I wish I knew what was going on behind the scenes. How do the instructors feel? Are they satisfied with the courses they've designed and the teaching material? Are they being forced to throw these classes together last minute on little or no budget or do they simply not care? Is the MBA program director aware of any of this? Because it's starting to feel like no one is steering the ship, and I'm getting that impression from my own experience combined with classmates who have been in other, new electives.
I know I was defending the program about 6 months ago on here but I'm starting to get to that frustrated place too. I'm glad I'm nearly done.

@DieDaily There's many of us that feel likewise. Glad to be at the end as well. The courses have been pretty good for the most part. Really couldn't have asked for better through December.
I do worry about them adding all these new courses with no text format. It's great they're trying to expand but it's coming at the expense of quality. Particularly knowing that it's not just limited to new professors. I passed on ISDS710 for MADM720 with Kim Williams this session for that very reason. If they can keep instructors session after session so they can get accustomed, great. If they can't, they're likely to see the same issues over and over.
I believe Wren stated during MADM715 course last session on our forum she really preferred a textbook and was left to write up content in days leading up to Modules. The final module was even released nearly a day late. It was the one course in the program I'd label very poor due to the content/exams not being reviewed by her along with her 'interesting' email correspondence to the students as a whole.

Am I understanding correctly that there are 3 Darrat professors? Mohamad Darrat (isds 710), Aadel Darrat (Mkt 710) and ?? Darrat
LINK
I think Mohamad has 2 entries on RateMyProfessor because he's taught at both LSUS and LA Tech. The bio he posted on Moodle indicates he received his doctorate from LA Tech, so that makes sense.

I'm actually taking ISDS 710 and MADM 720 this term. I initially dropped MADM 720 when I read the ISDS syllabus and saw the four case studies were supposed to be 5-10 pages each. When he settled on the 3-5 pages instead, I asked to be re-enrolled in MADM 720.
So far ISDS 710 is definitely not what I expected. Like others, I thought this was going to be pretty much only Excel and was blindsided by all of the writing. The case study took a decent amount of time to complete and I was shocked at the one sentence feedback when the grade was submitted. Seems a bit light relative to the time spent on the assignment. I haven't even received my grade for the homework assignment yet, which is ironic because that was the only assignment in the week that actually involved data analytics.

Has anyone taken BADM790(PI) under project management concentration? I was about to take it this summer AP1 but didn't know what to expect.

Thanks @JeauxCool! I will follow that advice (it was also mentioned in a zoom session) to set up a strong excel formula sheet. You are probably right in that i am overthinking this. Thanks for the pep talk

Thanks @JeauxCool!

Well Week 2 ACCT 701 just got a little more difficult. I'm looking at the learning objectives for the week to cram all that info in my notes and then her PP slides have additional info. She said to focus on the PP and skim the readings but its hard to skim the reading if some of the information from the learning objectives are not in the PP.

Additional session of MKT701 added for Fall AP1.......still James

I'm in my last class and it's MKT701 with James. So far, it really isn't that bad. Actually, it seems like a pretty good class.
Yes, there's a lot of work, but the readings are good, she's available on Zoom, responsive on the class forum, plenty of extra credit, clear instructions, clear testing criteria, the class uses current and relevant materials, etc.
I'm not keen on the "academic adviser" graders, but I haven't liked them in any other class either.
It actually feels like a capstone to MADM760, as we're taking a lot of the concepts Meeks taught and actually applying them to the marketing area--pretty cool stuff!

Is anyone here planning to take 2-3 years to complete the program?
I'm going a similar route. I get $5,000/yr in tuition reimbursement from my employer so I'm to take just over two years.
The downsides I would say are all to do with your goals/plans/timelines. If you need the degree to move into a position now, yeah... big negative. If you're just setting yourself up for future success and you are in a job now that the extra two years experience pairs well with the MBA... what's the downside?
I'd say the program will evolve quite a bit over the longer term but if you're primarily concerned with the AACSB and price, you're in a good spot.
IMO the biggest upside to three classes per year is your ability to take the class you want with the instructor you want. Read these boards and you'll see some instructors are universally frowned upon while another teacher for the same class is a superstar. So... you won't find yourself forced into taking MADM701 with White; you can take it when someone else is teaching.

I graduate in December so I'm planning to take it Fall AP1 but I'm also contemplating pairing with MKT705 to avoid another MADM elective in AP2 session. I don't care for all the writing/busy work, so a 20+ page project is not ideal...UGH! It is what it is....

I actually went back to my registration history and noticed I registered for his session back in Fall '17, but dropped for whatever reason. I did not know nearly as much valuable info as I do now in regards to program feedback. Sooo yea, KICKING MYSELF!

Edit - Please ignore, thought you were talking about MKT701, not ACCT701, carry-on

Did anyone take FIN730 with Choi before? If so, could you please advise me where to focus for the exam? There are a lot of reading requirements and I don't know where to focus.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Taking it now. Its basically Six Sigma Green Belt training. You can certified at the end by taking a test and paying $75. There are a lot of mini assignments and no text book, overall not too bad so far.

"@SkipDigs, for exams understand the concept from the slides and focus on the Problem set question and answers, my recollection is that most of the questions are from the problem set. this class wasn't that heavy provided you have done FIN701 already"

I'm in the mist of my 7th and 8th classes in the program. I'm attempting to finish this program in 5 sessions. What I've realized is that because of when I started (Fall AP2), I've forced myself down a much harder road than if I started during Fall AP1. The reason I say that is that my Spring AP1 and Summer AP1 have been MADM 701, ACCT 701, MKT 701, and FIN 701. I have no choice but to pair those up because they are AP1 classes. If I'd have started during Fall AP1, I would have attended 3 AP1 sessions and could spread those out.
I just wanted to put this out there so that it may help some poor soul not to do what I have done.
