I’ve noticed a glaring difference on this thread as the program has expanded with the frequency of downvotes and opinionated students on here. It is a bit overwhelming. Look back around 6-8 months ago and you’ll overtly and explicitly see the camaraderie and helpfulness in this very thread without the downvote criticism. Seems as though there’s a vitriol here as of late as more students enroll into the program.

I'm a year and a half into the program. Just wondering how it used to be and how it's changed. Can you elaborate?

@Luke14, I don't want to put words in another person's mouth but it appears that poster doesn't like others giving his comments downvotes. I'm new in here and can honestly say that I've only seen others helping one another and I really appeciate the information dispensed. It's helped me study smarter and pick my upcoming classes more strategically. Thank-you all!

Same here. I've gotten lots of help and advice on this thread already! It has helped me plan out my entire MBA class plan.

I was looking for input on the electives bellow. I need to choose one for Spring AP2 and wanted to get input from those who have taken them as to which one would be the best option. I know HCAD750 is new.

FIN720
HCAD750
MADM715
MADM730
MKT705

Any help is appreciated

Have you not seen my contributions and being helpful in this thread?

Look, it’s just a personal observation, but please, when you get some spare time, take a look at the posts on here from about a year or so ago. You have nowhere near the criticism as you do recently.

ETA:

I actually am the one who bumped this thread on page one when after a few days it was lost in the shuffle and since:

It has been front and center of this money board. I’m not looking for gratification, just don’t understand and appreciate the negative vibe of this thread the past few months, that’s all.

I'm not sure what to think of the down votes. I've noticed it too as of late (been on here for just over a year). The thread still has a lot of good information.

I think there are valid complaints and discussions of program changes and even teachers. All of which will probably get a down vote.

Unfortunately, LSUS doesn't give any real format for the students to have a say in anything. They don't do a thing about bad teachers. They make random changes to the program (can't review your answers on a test to see what you got wrong, different core courses, etc.).

I think a lot of that filters to here. Along with the useful information on things like who the good teachers are and which classes are on 100% auto pilot.

Since this is a public forum, people are going to use this as a platform to share their displeasure and negative experiences with the program more often than the good. As long as this continues to be a good source of information for those of us enrolled and prospective students, I couldn’t care less about the downvotes personally. Let’s just continue using this for its intended purpose and not a textbook exchange

Hi Paul, I hear what you're saying. I did feel like we had a more tight knit group on here last year and earlier this year. Things change as the program expands. I have no idea why people would give you or anyone the down votes. I never even pay attention to the voting option.

Just negative and bored I guess.

The votes do not matter to me.Look at my last post 4 messages up. I simply asked for advice and got a down vote. Do not take it personal Paul. On the flip side i know Paul Socal77 and jeauxcool have been on this forum with great information for a long time and ive learned from their comments yet the only statement responded to was Paul complaint and not my post simply asking for help. I question why that is

signa7,
MADM 715 is the only class on that list that I've had. I liked it and have often had to use what I learned at work. You have to read and study but no real busy work other than a virtual presentation. 2 chapters to read / week with a quiz administered through McGraw Hill Connect and graded for completion only. A weekly exam that is proctored via proctorio. The exams are tough but should be able to get an A if read the material, take notes, and study.

FIN 720 is the only other class listed that isn't new.

I took Mkt 701 with James and Fin 701 with Vines. If you work full time I wouldn't recommend the double. I spent 15 hours a week on Mkt and 10-15 on Fin. James had us write something each week plus a attend a group project that met each week. That took a lot of my time, and then I had to read 2 chapters for the tests.
For Fin, others may find it easier that I did. What I did was take the notes Vines gave us and then add everything to them - formulas, examples, definitions...it made the quizzes easier as they were open book/note. You need to write all the answers in your own words while using his definitions and the text definitions. Figuring out the problems took me a lot of time too as I wanted to know how to recognize them on the tests.

I've tried to read some posts here to see if Econ 705 or ISDS 705 takes more of my time, and it seems Econ would? I'd like to take a few days off after the first week of Spring AP2 and am trying to figure which of the two classes would accommodate that. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks.

ISDS is considerably less busy work than ECON and would be a better fit, in my opinion.

I would definitely contribute to the discussion, but I am very new to the program. I'm still getting my feet wet.

Thanks Paul. I am hoping ISDS gets assigned a good professor as it's tbd right now.

For future reference, I've read that ECON 705 has a lot of Excel work with calculus included. Doesn't Excel do the work for you if you know the formulas/inputs? I used Excel and online formulas for FIN 701 and was able to skip the math so I'm hoping it's the same.

Hey Luke,
I'm in my 4th class, almost half-way there. I know others are much more knowledgeable, but I appreciate your response and hope to help more as I get more experience in the program myself.

@thebub,

I'm in both Econ 705 and ISDS 705 right now. There is no question that Econ takes up much more time than ISDS. You could realistically only put in an hour or two every other week in ISDS and do fine. Econ is very structured with weekly lectures, quizzes, homework, online Zoom Q&A, and a weekly test. If you keep up, it's not unweildy. But it's not a good idea to miss much time during the course.

I am in both Econ and ISDS. The latter is on autopilot, and except for the three test days you can fully decide when you work on the class. ECON is a great class and is taught well. You need to stay on it consistently, though. You can do almost everything on your own schedule within the week, but you can't skip a week and unless you already know economics, you really can't backload it in a day or two late in the week either. Also, unless you have a good statistics or calculus background, you will spend time figuring out formulas and trying to make sense of the logical applications of the formulas. It isn't hard really, but it can be time consuming. Some people are struggling and have posted their frustration. But it is clear to me that they are not taking advantage of the resources they have with the zoom sessions and a good professor. Also, they don't seem to be putting in the work with the problems in the book or the class practice problems. I never see them in the live zoom sessions. I spend a lot of hours in the class and have almost a 98% so far.
