Does anyone have one and if so, would you recommend it?

Yes and yes
Only real complaint is that, like with all Toyota/Lexus vehicles, the tech is dated (e.g. no car play until 2020 or 2021 model year).

I wouldn't recommend it if good gas mileage is important to you.

Good point, tuned for premium unleaded.

they don't seem like they have changed much since they were first introduced in 2003.

Just bought a 2021 about 6 weeks ago and like it so for.... like others have mentioned, the tech isn’t the newest and the gas mileage is crap.

Gas Mileage sucks, and requires premium. The interior looks like something from the 90's and the brake pedal is super soft.

It was on the short list of what one of my buddies was looking at buying. Like everyone has said already about its tech, it sucks.
He happened to pass by A Hyundai/Genesis dealership and as a goof went in when he saw the new Genesis GV80 SUV on the lot. Took a test drive and then ordered one the next week. This thing is balla status and I’m not nearly a tech guy like he is, but it’s amazing what that car has in it.

Give me a Suburban any day. The diesel is great.

So it does have CarPlay now?

If you're buying an older used one I can see the point, there's just so many better vehicles than it newer though. Lexus has totally ignored redesigning it since 2010 model year. That is one old vehicle on a very old platform for a lot $.

Haven't done too much research on them yet, as I am just starting to research my next car at year-end. Going with something with more luxury than my '12 Maxima in the $50k range and have my eye on the ES 350 F Sport
But aren't they planning to roll out new tech for most of their cars with the 2022 launch in the fall?

Not sure but every model is on different refresh cycles so they dont all get updated at same time. The GX hasn't been redesigned in literally a decade which is insane for a vehicle. Most vehicles stay on a 5-6 year full model redesign, sometimes 7.
If I'm getting a non-huge 3 row luxury SUV I'm definitely going GV80 or MDX SH-AWD. The GX is just ancient by comparison to those options.

we have a 2016 GX and love it. It's for toting two toddlers around, so it gets trashed, but we feel it's safe. It drives more like a car around a city, with a smooth and quiet ride. They are all-time 4wheel drive and require premium. About 80,000 miles and no issues to date.

If you’re going to use it for off-roading, snow, and mountains then I would definitely recommend it. I wouldn’t recommend it if you live in a big city and drive a lot. Like other people said, terrible gas mileage and no new technology. We have a 2013 and live in Denver and use it to drive in the mountains in the winter, commute to work on snow days, and drive our infant around town.
