For about 2 seconds, then the check will be out of my hand. Handling a transaction for work tomorrow and I'll be handed a check for $1,143,840.

What's the largest amount of money you've ever held at one time? Mine will be this check tomorrow.

After hurricane Rita I had some spec houses going up, a flip going on, as well as a lot of hurricane repair I took on for State Farm and Allstate because I have two friends who are agents. My material bills were well into the 6 figures for several months. It's a bit nerve-racking writing that big of a check because accounting during that time was a nightmare. I had money going out and coming in constantly. My payroll was also insane.

I put as much of it on my Amex as I could to get a shitload of points though.

I just wrote the biggest personal check of my life last week for a new truck. Still sick to my stomach over it.

So these agents referred you to their customers for repairs? You know that's extremely illegal in a Louisiana, right? I wouldn't mention those agents' names on here if I were you.

No. Contractors were hard to come by at first and adjusters were slammed because many were still in NOLA dealing with Katrina. My friends asked me to help them with some estimates to at least get their customers some money because they could write anything under like $10K out of their office using my bid without an adjuster since I am a state licensed contractor. I wasn't going to do the repair work because I was already very busy with my specs but one thing lead to another and the people I wrote estimates for started calling me after about a month of not being able to find anyone so I decided to hire some additional crews and dive into it. They weren't the only ones we did work for obviously once we got rolling but that's how it happened. I also had a few guys that did a lot of tarps for my friends to try to hold people over until they found a contractor and those people also eventually ended up calling me to do their whole jobs.

That was a crazy 8 or 9 months. I also owned a cellulose insulation machine and we were getting insane money to vacuum and replace wet insulation. I did a whole hotel of insulation replacement actually. Ordered an 18 wheeler load of cellulose from Applegate in Shreveport for that and another big job.

So many strippers could pay for college with that

My largest was $31K.

Largest personal check was for $100k, but at least it was for an investment (so not like the money was vanishing). It was kind of a cool feeling to write all of that out on a check.

I worked as an adjuster for a few storms. I think the largest single check I wrote was for 32,000.

Out of personal funds was about $17K for closing of house. That was writing the check.

I had a client in Houston a few years ago that had a great year when oil was sky high, and he wrote a check to the IRS on April 15th for something like $5,784,372.

Chicken and I are in negotiations right now for the rights to TD. Let's just say it makes the premise of this thread look like peanuts.

Largest personal money was a check for ~65k for house.

I have an uncle who went through several sales of his company over a short period and got to see checks for 2+ million dollars. I don't even know why you are getting a check and not having money wired at that point.

I worked for some trial attorneys in college, and they easily had million dollar plus checks that I would take to Whitney for deposit. They didn't even bat an eye at the amounts. Largest one I can remember was probably for 5.5 million or something.

Just to be clear, you are a courier and not a millionaire at any point tomorrow. And if it's a check, you aren't holding anything but a promise of one bank to transfer funds to another.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

I was a runner for a law firm and deposited a 1.4 million dollar check for the firm, of course they only kept 33% of the settlement. Check felt very heavy in my hand as I was 17 years old.
