what are the best investments? Energy mutual funds, oil on a commodities index? With the current situation in Iran, I think prices will continue to climb... how do we make a buck here?

I wish I could, unfortunately the plot of land I own is a 750 sq ft. condo in a DC building.... I don't think they'd take kindly to a derrick on the corner of 14th and K

Chevron has been very good to me. You can buy direct without a broker.

I've been buying a lot of small independent public E&P company stocks, especially those that trumpet that they are oil focused - they will rise with the tide and you can make a quick flip, if that's what you're interested in.

Which ones if you don't mind me asking....I like this strategy, made a bundle doing this last go round. Are you afraid the higher insurance rates in the Gulf will hurt these guys?

Stay onshore then, that's where the massive growth has been anyway. I would also throw out the idea of non-US E&Ps. Lots of activity in Africa and South America.

KOG, MHR, SSN, SD, AXAS, GMXR all making a killing the last few weeks as price of oil continues to rise, we should see $120 a barrel by summer.

Take a dart and throw it at a dartboard of service companies and operators, you'll make money.

Which do you like best and why? Are they pretty much tied to the cost per barrel (goes down as cost goes down)?

So the future is bright for them?

They'll probably all relatively float with the rising tide but smaller E&Ps are usually focused on particular areas. People pay much closer attention to well-specific data for them as they're much more operationally and financially leveraged to fewer wells than an XOM or CHK would be. I know I've said this before relative to O&G companies but I feel the need to mention it again since you keep wanting it to be purely a function of commodity prices. You can bet it like that, but if you decide to bet on Carrizo and they miss hard on a Niobrara well or Forest and they continue to have operational issues don't expect their stock price to not take a hit simply because oil is up to $105.

It is a bit ironic that US demand is at a 15-yr low yet supposed concern over supply disruptions in my least favorite area of the world drives oil prices higher. Maybe there is a hidden agreement amongst certain producing countries to outwardly position themselves as supply inhibitors to maintain pricing for all. OK, I don't really believe that, just postulating.
Sounds like the US needs to improve its refining efficiency/capacity if consumers want relief at the pumps.
