We need to move ours ... it's earning an embarrassing rate and yes I know it's crazy to have it there.

Forbes in 2025 lists Fidelity as a 5 star great option. Any thoughts? Please give me your best suggestions.

Also, is it difficult to move a HSA??

Thanks in advance.

Edit to add this is not done through an employer if that makes any difference.

Lively is good in my experience and allows you to trade through Charles Schwab

I also use lively and Charles Schwab.
Have heard great things about fidelity. I think fees may be slightly lower on fidelity to trade

We moved everything from Healthequity to Fidelity at the end of last year. Have been pleased with it so far.

Thanks everyone. We just put the money in and never even use it unless it’s a major deal (surgery type things). I never even look at it until I have to add to it. We do it once a year and then forget it.

Until today.

Thanks again.

Your HSA doesn’t offer an investment option?

Mines done through UMB HSA Investments.

I have one through an employer but there are no investment options so we opened another one through Fidelity and do a transfer of assets every so often. This allows us to invest the money. We plan on not touching it until retirement....it's one of the best accounts you can use to invest since it's a triple tax advantaged account. Fidelity made it pretty seamless and I would recommend them.

Wait, what? Your hsa doesnt offer an investment option???

That’s the entire point of an hsa lol

I don’t even use it for medical expenses haha. I put 100% of hsa funds into investments.

Have a word with your HR department; they're typically not great at money and don't look at a lot of details other than benefit coverage and cost vs. the prior year. This is borderline negligence in 2025.

I use HealthEquity and have had no issues with them, everything has been very easy. The investment options they have isn't ridiculously vast, but it does have VTSAX so i'm good

ETA: And i've never heard of an HSA platform that doesn't offer investment options. Every platform i've looked at has them. Not to say it isn't possible, just very bizarre. Could you possibly have an FSA instead?

If you use a broker like Fidelity you can invest in direct stocks, funds, or whatever. Very easy.

Interesting. Your HSA will allow you to move it anywhere you want?

My company uses Optum as the HSA and they have Betterment as the investment vehicle. Betterment is somewhat limited, imo.

Yes, but since it's a transfer of assets it takes a couple of weeks so I only do it a handful of times a year. Definitely not ideal. HSA is serviced by a local bank which I'm guessing is why we have no investment options.

My company until end of last year was using Optum. What I did was every 6 months, I'd initiate at Fidelity an online transfer of assets from Optum to my Fidelity HSA. No issues, it would usually take 2-3 weeks for it to show up at Fidelity.

I wouldn't transfer everything and leave $100 so that the account doesn't get closed etc.

I have mine at Fidelity, it's been over 5 years. Very easy to transfer and invest in whatever meets your future needs. I invest most of the $ in higher expected return assets to help offset future health care costs.
